>Be college student, graduating very soon
>Intern at local company in spare time
>Enjoy it but the pay is shit
>Told that I probably won’t be hired or get a raise for awhile, even a year
>Not enough to afford a place myself, planning on quitting and moving back with my parents until I find a better paying job
>Put in two weeks notice
>Suddenly get offered a full-time position, that pays way better, despite what they said before

What do, /adv/? My gut tells me this is a bad idea, but it may be my door to my career.

Give it a yearish. You'll need the experience, or look for a better offer before you accept this one if possible.
>>

do you have any other opportunities for work experience?

Just intern experience alone for several months isn't going to make you very competitive. You're already ahead of many of your colleagues if you have work experience before graduating. Everyone without any is going to be desperate for even an entry level job outside their program of study after a a month or so of searching for a job even if they are in STEM because everyone is in STEM.

I don't know where you are but it's especially bad here in Canada with the government keeps pushing for more post-secondary education (more grants every year) with no regard to market demand.

American here.

I guess my main concern is that if I do accept the counteroffer, I feel as though it will be used against me. Does anyone know what I mean when I say this? Its a little hard to explain.

yea they are trying to get you back so they can abuse you for as long as possible OP. They liked that you were complacent enough for as long as you were, and they dont feel like doing interviews to replace you. sounds like a shit company OP, I'd leave if possible. Offering you a better postion after you try to quit is actually a very common practice.

I don't get it, do you mean like you'll feel indebted to them for offering you a job or something?

They're just trying to get the most out of you since they already trained you as an intern (for very cheap). Better to keep you than have to train someone else for the full-time position. If you don't have anything else for the moment anyways, why not stick with it for a few more months until you have a full year of experience to show off on your resume (or earlier than that if you somehow get a nicer job in less time)?

I don't know how high your rent is though. Will you have anything left over for yourself to spend/save? If it's bad, only you will know if the work experience you get from it is worth that sacrifice for a few more months or a year at most (basically like a co-op term where you're just breaking even between your wages and living expenses

Push a little on the pay, but don't turn it down.

it is hard to get a job, and even hareder without at least a year of work experance. You can alway keep looking, butyou can't always get odders.

But watchem, cause they sound like their in it for the money so they my push you too hard or drop you if they find some fool to work for less.

Do it. you won't find much else.
if it turns out to be shit, it doesn't matter, at least you'll have paid experience which will help A LOT in getting another job
having the exp as an intern is alright, but the real thing sounds 1000x better to an employer
