How can I show appreciation to a religious stranger?
There is a small pizza restaurant run by a Muslim man. He has a sign on the front that shows what hour he will be unavailable for business every Friday to make room for prayer.
I am Jewish and I admire his piety. I want to do something for him-- perhaps bring him a gift?-- to show him I appreicate him and think it is wonderful that he is a practicing Muslim.
What do you think I could do to show him and other people like him my appreciation?
That doesn't make any sense, how does a Muslim run a pizza place? Most topping contain pork.

I suppose making unclean foods doesn't compromise his practise.
I have cooked some good non-kosher meals myself.
Most Muslims (non westernized) hate Jews, and given that he is devout enough to pray, he probably does too. So the best you can do is nothing.

What? I live in a Muslim country. We have pizza and we have it quite often. There are more toppings than pork-related ones.

Ask him to put you in his oven

The primacy of literacy in Judaism and Islam presents a shared value that the both of you can appreciate. You could gift him a book such as 'Religious Tolerance in World Religions'; thusly you each would each gain an altruistic topic for discussion, if you read the book also. That esteem granted to abate the hatred- makes everyone feel welcome and comfortable.

Keep in mind that it could also easily be taken as an underhanded gesture, given all this Islamophobia as of late.

One of my smaller goals is to kind of say
"Hey, I don't hate Muslims like many people do right now. We can be friendly and appreciative of one another despite political strife!"

you could show appreciation by going in and ordering pizza a lot, and letting him know that you admire what he is doing.
