I have a great life.
Lots of friends (male and female), a family that loves me, economic stability.
I don't have a low self-esteem problem on the outside, I usually mingle well with all kinds of people and can fit in most groups.
And at the same time I'm extremely unhappy because I never had a romantic relationship as of my 18 years.
It seems to be incrusted deep in my mind that a girlfriend would be the key to my happiness.
When I get too close to a girl I start getting attached too much, and it hurts way more when it's clear that they only like me as a friend.
Is the thought "girlfriend = happiness" correct?
Or have i just got low self-esteem deep inside?
How do I delete the thought that only a romantic relationship would make me happy?
Thanks for your help and concern.

Point is, I can't get one.

and our point is that you don't need to get one. once you do, you will see that girlfriend != happiness. thus you would have just wasted your time.
