hack-email-735x400.jpg
101KB, 735x400px
A friend of mine received an email from some douchebag slamming a company I just started. The email came from a yahoo acct [email protected] from someone going by the name Peter Lynn who states that he works or, is associated with the FCC. From doing a google search the only professional person with that name on the web is a kite maker from New Zeland named Peter Lynn.

I want to find out who the person is that created this account so I can expose them and bury them.

How can I do that?
>>
Just filter/hide and move on.
The same way I did to your thread!
Amazing.
>>
Filter what and hide what?

My buddy just sent the full header. That is below:

I don't want to filter or hide the person. I want to find out who they really are.

*GASP*

AND IT TELLS YOU NOTHING!

Let's all give these folks a big round of applause for this truly life-changing discovery!

Honestly, did you seriously expect the email carrier to just GIVE YOU all of this persons personal information?

"Yeah! He lives here! Come stab him!"

There is nothing you'll learn from his account unless you prod it, or phish him.

Above all this bullshit even, are you serious? If you're getting all constipated over a little email, you're never going to be able to run a business. Be the bigger person.
>>
The email he sent went out to 8 distinct clients who then sent it out to other people which turned out to be a shit storm! It's called Defamation so yeah I am serious. How can I phish or prod them?

What about a IP Address?
>>
>>17807029
If you can either hack into his email account, or get it from the carrier, then sure. You have an email address. Providing he doesn't use a VPN, you could use the IP to tell what city he was in when he sent the message, but that's about it. From there, you would have to find somebody with matching credentials.

So, it's a bit of a fruitless endeavor.

With sufficient authority, a person could track an IP all the way back to the network it originated from, from which they could acquire a mac address, contact the manufacturer to track where it was shipped, go to the store, acquire the sales details, and then inquire regarding more details at their financial institution, but I doubt anybody would bother over a case like this.

The best you're going to be able to do is glean as much information from this account as possible, and try to get hits with that information. Check security questions and that, see if it's registered to any other sites where they may have posted more information. Usually once you can determine a location and verify the name, it becomes pretty easy to find things on people. If it's just a throw-away account though, none of this really matters.

The better question might be: How does he know who your clients are, and why does he have their information?
