Is a 550 sq ft studio apartment enough space for two adults?
Are the two adults in a relationship or just friends?

In a relationship.
We will be downgrading from a 750 sq ft apartment. At first I thought it's doable but now having second thoughts.

I've lived in a smaller apartment with my SO, there are some design choices you can do to make it feel more open, generally I've found it isn't a horrible thing to live in a smaller space to save money. You will notice that you may have to clean a little more, but In my experience it isn't that big of a deal.
I have a friend with an apartment that size, he's lived there for three fucking years and I have no idea how he stands it. I personally would hate a tiny apartment, even if it was just me.
I would be able to spend my whole life in one of those. In sweden mlst student places are 300sq ft

Permanent or temporary? My wife and I downgraded to 440 (from 1900) for a year after disaster struck, so it's certainly doable. But as >>17780268 says, it requires some serious design choices and more frequent cleaning. At least the cleaning is easier.
I'd probably not be happy in such a place. I live in a 3 bedroom house all to myself.
idk man to me, that pic looks pretty damn cozy. as long as the ceilings arent short as fuck
depends on the couple. Do you guys like to spend a lot of time with each other?
Honestly just try it out and if it doesn't work move to a different place.

Perfectly doable if your expectations aren't high and you're not into the whole house party thing where you invite more than 3-4 people at same time.
