My girlfriend really likes edgy clothing. This isn't a problem

My girlfriend really likes edgy clothing. This isn't a problem most of the tim; we're both totally committed to eachother and I seriously am not the type of person to say "nope, you're not wearing that", but sometimes the clothes look like an invitation to stare or edgy for edgy sake. Take pic related. I think they're really indecent but she doesn't and I'm trying to show that I don't care but it really bothers me. She gets insanely jealous, but I know she'll say I emasculated for not wanting to wear just /suggestive/ clothing. What do?

>>17778297

Just remember that girls wear stuff like this because they want to express their sexuality and feel sexy, not because they are looking for sexual attention.

I know it sounds weird, but girls really do like to peacock but this is completely a separate concept for them in their mind than fucking or flirting.

Also, trying to prevent your girl from wearing sexy clothes is creepy and paternalistic. She wants a boyfriend, not another father. Plus it teaches women that they should be ashamed of their sexuality, when men are not taught such lessons. It propagates the cultural conditioning of the patriarchy which teaches women that they do not own their own sexuality and that it should be in control of men.

Cheers.

Look, feminist or not the psychology of it is true. It's like when you're out and about you don't want to seem like the anxious beta male who's out of his element. Even if you don't plan to interact with anyone or do anything at all, you still want people to see you and, at some level, think "That dude's looks like he's got his shit together."

Same with women, they want other people to see them and think that they are the alpha bitch of the universe. No one thinks that of fat, dumpy women in baggy clothes - she's probably just an angry bitch who fucked up bad somewhere.

>>
>>17778438
There is a difference between looking "like you have your shit together" and looking provocative. A person who tries to look sexy is doing it to get sexual attention.

I am a girl and I have a boyfriend. I didn't stop putting attention in what I wear, I still take care of myself, but I look sexy just for him.
I know I give a different vibe when I dress with a pair of nice jeans and a cute blouse and when I dress with a tight black dress. If I am not with him, I'm not wearing my tight black dress.
>>
Idk anon I wear stuff like that and like it when my bf tells me not to wear certain things.

Sounds like bullshit. You dress provocatively to provoke attention. You're still advertising yourself as a potential partner.

I'm not saying she's intending to cheat, but it seems like she's either too immature, or naive, to realize that that's how she's displaying herself to others and that it's disrespectful to her current partner.

You don't dress sexy for yourself.
You can dress well for yourself, you can put that pair of jeans that make you look thinner and that top that makes your eyes look brighter because you feel well in them, but no girl ever dresses sexy for herself. Dressing sexy is something you do to get sexual attention. That's literally the only reason why you do it.
>>
>>17779184
Sexy and well are usually interchangeable and down to personal preference.
>>
>Just remember that girls wear stuff like this because they want to express their sexuality and feel sexy, not because they are looking for sexual attention.

No. I'm nipping this in the bud now. Fucking sick of seeing this. Nobody EVER dresses sexy or good for themselves. Everyone dresses for people as well as themselves. The ONLY reason anyone ever develops a taste for certain articles of clothing is because when we were all growing up we were exposed to a variety of different advertisements and images and life experiences of people liking or disliking certain articles of clothing. Eventually we take all these images we've seen, and decide which articles we like relative to how PEOPLE react to them, and how we think we look to those people. The only reason a woman thinks she looks in a pair of tight jeans is because men have determined that women look good in tight jeans. Anything else is lying to yourself.

You wanna know who really dresses for themselves? Mother fuckers who go to the liquor store around the corner in their bathrobes. ANYTHING else is a load of bullshit. I'm so fucking sick of this attitude goddamn fuck you.

They absolutely aren't. You have zero self awareness if you don't understand how different is the vibe you give.

Pants, flats and blouse is dressing well.
Short shorts and crop top and heels is dressing sexy.
In the first example you look classy and pretty, in the second case you want people to look at your tits and butt.

I doubt you'd go to your first day at a job wearing shorts and a croptop.
Different clothes give different image of you to people. If you dress sexy, you are asking to get male attention.
>>
>>17779291
>Why do you think that?
Sorry, never took the time to over-analyze it. My guess would be the change, since you need certain conditions to wear them like weather and not being fat, while pants are standard wear.

>Why do you think this as well?
Because it's the basic clothing for most of the year. You realize that pants were considered indecent for women not too long ago too, do you?

Also I am a guy. We simply have much fewer variations to our clothing, so maybe that's why it's so hard to see for you.

Take other bits like jewellery or bags or purses. Do you seriously think women spend thousands for that crap because they think that one out of hundreds of men who are faggy enough to care will notice?
>>
>>17779271
that's wrong because clothing has aesthetic properties all on it's own, no cultural associations or experience required. it's not relevant to this particular grievance, but clothing also has performance characteristics other than how people react to seeing it.
>>
>>17779258

>>
>>17779302
But we're not talking jewelry or clothing.

>My guess would be the change

It's a change of pace and it shows more leg and more buttocks than a standard pair of jeans. If it was simply a change of the weather that caused someone to wear lighter clothing than pants, why not regular shorts? Because some folks look better in short shorts.

>>17779308
Precisely.
>>
>>17779306
>that's wrong because clothing has aesthetic properties all on it's own

Absolutely. You've got different textures, different feelings from polyester to cotton to silk. But we're not talking about that. In fact you're the first person to bring it up which should speak VOLUMES.

>but clothing also has performance characteristics other than how people react to seeing it.

Agreed. And again it should say so much that it took this long to bring it up.
>>
>>17779315
>But we're not talking jewelry or clothing.
These show pretty well that women spend tons of money to look good for themselves (or to impress other women)

Same goes for every other clothing article. Only the most desperate ones give any fucks about men perceiving them as sexy.

>If it was simply a change of the weather that caused someone to wear lighter clothing than pants, why not regular shorts?
There are hotpants, skirts and the likes. Regular shorts are pretty short for women too.

>Because some folks look better in short shorts.
Sure and hence they wear them. Personal aesthetics and shit.
>>
>>17779336
>These show pretty well that women spend tons of money to look good for themselves (or to impress other women)

Ayy would you look at that. All of this for the attention of others. Who'da thought that?

>Regular shorts are pretty short for women too.

Living in California, this is nothing but a falsehood.

>Sure and hence they wear them

But why do they think they look good if not a culture that has bred that women with nice legs should wear short shorts?
>>
>>17779342
> Who'da thought that?
Nobody said attention isn't a big part about it. Your feeling about yourself is mostly shaped by your environment. The point was that they don't wear it to be sexy for males.

>Living in California, this is nothing but a falsehood.
Care to link examples? I don't recall ever seeing not short shorts for women beyond sports uniform.

>But why do they think they look good if not a culture that has bred that women with nice legs should wear short shorts?
Sounds like a too simplistic answer to a complex question. Although culture is obviously a big part. Another might be personal aesthetics and comfort.

That's what I'm saying. It doesn't make sense for someone in a committed, and closed relationship, to be seeking attention from other people. That's what makes it disrespectful.

A person can still put care into their appearance while not looking like they're going out to give some succ. Like >>17778462 for example.
>>
>>17779365
>That's what I'm saying.
Yet you fail to understand that she doesn't do it to get attention from other dudes. If she'd wanted to cheat, she wouldn't fucking do it in front of you.

>>

I never said that either. I've always been saying it's for others. Not just for men. Both sexes influence the culture of fashion and what looks good. I suppose we're in agreement.

>Care to link examples? I don't recall ever seeing not short shorts for women beyond sports uniform.

Nono I mean the regular shorts part. I never see that here in SoCal on a woman.

>Sounds like a too simplistic answer to a complex question

>Another might be personal aesthetics and comfort.

And you're only the second dude to bring this up, which shows how uncommon that actually is.

I'm not sure I agree, but I suppose that is up to the couple. My girlfriend will go out with her friends sometimes and having just spoken with her right now she says she'll dress so her friends will compliment her.

We're just going full circle here. I already told you, you dress provocatively to attract sexual attention. Real life isn't like some hentai where women casually dress like sluts and get surprised when their overweight middle aged boss starts groping them after everyone has left for home. And then he pins her against the window in his high-rise office after he's taken off her shirt and left her bare breasts exposed to feel the full chill of the night against the glass.

S-sorry, anon.
>>
>>17779405
>you dress provocatively to attract sexual attention.
When YOU consider as provocatively doesn't mean that the person wearing it does. Nor that they want to gain anything beyond attention even if they do.

>>17779396
Would be top kek.
>>
>>17779417
When you're seeking attention, it's about what the spectator wants and what appearance/behavior they think is worth paying attention to. And I know what you're trying to get at. Maybe she thinks some skimpy dress is nice and doesn't have any bad intentions while wearing it. That's fine, but she needs to understand that she's in a relationship now and she's dressing for both herself and her partner (likewise for the guy and how he appears/behaves), and that her choice of attire communicates a lot as to the type of person she is.

And, I'm not saying she'd go through with cheating, we don't know what she's like, but she definitely knows what kind of attention she's inviting by dressing the way she does. You wouldn't wear an apron to the grocery store and get upset when another shopper asks you for help.

At best, she's a tease, and at worse, she's a tramp. If OP doesn't feel comfortable with the way she's dressing, then they should talk things over. He deserves a fair say as much as she deserves to dress in a way she likes. They need to find a middle ground.
>>
>>17779580
>He deserves a fair say as much as she deserves to dress in a way she likes.
In spirit of the message I can agree but I'd say the word "deserve" is way too strong when it comes to OP.

It's his good right to mention his concerns or even leave her if she ignores them but when it comes to something like that, it's simply better to allow a person their personal freedom and dealing with your own feelings that causes concern.

>You wouldn't wear an apron to the grocery store and get upset when another shopper asks you for help.
Sure but I could tell them simply to fuck off (or whatever the polite form would be) and if they keep pushing, it's their fault for not getting the message.
>>
>>17779594
>Sure but I could tell them simply to fuck off
It doesn't change that fact that it's poor form in a relationship. You can argue the finer points all you like but dressing in a "sexy" manner attract sexual attention, from other men. Which you shouldn't be doing in a healthy relationship.
>>17778297
>She gets insanely jealous
That in itself is a huge red flag in my experience partner who get jealous (more so than usual) are cheaters who are projecting.
>>
>>17779642
>You can argue the finer points all you like but dressing in a "sexy" manner attract sexual attention, from other men.
Simply being a female will do that. Being a hot female adds extra attention even if you dress as plain as possible. Dressing sexy only adds further to it.

One solution would be burqas. The other to make fun of thirsty betas who want your girlfriend.
>>
>>17779710
Nice try at an reducto ad absurdum. Your arguement would make sense if women didn't have the ability to choose their clothes and dress themselves. If you are purposely wearing sexy clothes innapropriately while in a relationship that's 100% on you.
>>
>>17779740

>>
>>17779759
God fucking dammit Pegasus.
>>
>>17779740
Again, it doesn't matter what they wear, they will always attract men. Because ... wait for it this is crazy - and unbelievable but please trust me ... heterosexual men are attracted to women. As long she goes outside, she will attract someone.
>>
>>17779825
Again, that isn't even remotely the point of the discussion.
>>
>>17779832
Because the entire point of discussion is silly. She can walk around like a catholic nun, it won't stop other men being attracted to her. So if that's a problem, OP should consider hiding her in a basement.

Alternatively, he can stop bitching about her wearing whatever she wants and accept that other dudes are into her. If she's into him, it won't matter. If she isn't, being controlling about her clothes won't change it to the better either way.
>>
>>17779879
Again you either didn't read the thread or are being obtuse. There is no issue with men being attracted to her. The issue is her purposely dressing in a provocative way, most likely to get a rise out of the OP. Obviously just by being alive a woman will attract the attention of men, but doing so, on purpose while in a relationship is no normal behaviour.
>>
>>17779899
>on purpose
>to get a rise out of OP
That's a lot interpretation of her behavior, while the most likely reason is simply liking that stuff.

Besides, again, where's the problem? She dresses in a way that makes her more attractive to men. It doesn't mean she cares about any other man but OP. Everybody wants to be seen as attractive by the other gender and a relationship doesn't change it. Is she hitting on other man?

Besides, assuming she wants to do it specifically to provoke OP, that'd mean there is a much bigger issue in their relationshit than her dressing in a certain way.

In neither scenario it makes any difference what she wears.
>>
>>17778964

There is fuck all interpretation required here. If she's dressing up in clothes like the photo in the OP she's seeking the attention of men. Which is not appropriate when you are in a relationship. You can make all the excuses you like it doesn't make a difference.

Also why is basic human behavior not appropriate? Does OP purposefully tries to dress and look as bad as possible so other women won't notice him?

It's amazing what kind of shit one can come up with to justify insecurity.

Nobody "dresses for themselves". If they were on a deserted island, they'd never spend time putting outfits together and doing makeup. They'd wear whatever was comfortable and useful.
People dress for others. They dress to signal to others what kind of person they are, they dress to flaunt wealth, to flaunt taste and knowledge of fashion trends, to signal what social class or religion they belong to, and of course to attract mates and so on.
"Oh, I just like looking good" is bullshit.

I think I get what you're saying.

Even if a guy is with a chick, he still wants to look HANDSOME. If he was dressing stylishly, doing his hair, wearing cologne, driving a nice car, and other things that make him attractive to women, he wouldn't simply stop doing those things because now he has a woman, even if doing so continues to cause women to display interest in him.

And honestly, nothing pulls the attention of other women more than a wedding ring/knowing you already have a woman.

Similarly, a woman who already dressed in sexy clothes before she hooked up with a guy is not going to stop just because she's now with a guy. While she was certainly trying to look attractive, it doesn't mean that she's intentionally trying to pull more guys anymore than her guy is trying to pull more women by continuing to dress stylishly and wearing cologne.

But guys just don't get female attention as much as chicks get male attention. As such, guys tend to be more concerned when their women would be the object of male attention because it's so easy to get loads of it already.

And women get really jealous when another woman shows interest in their guy because such a thing happens so rarely (compared to the reverse) and everyone knows it, so the guy might actually give in to that rare chance.

The point wasn't "she dresses sexy in order to cheat on you". The point is "she dresses sexy to get sexual attention, not to feel good or some other shit".
Which you just proved to be true.

Don't listen to this woman desu
Girls get an adrenaline rush when strangers stare at the shape of their body. Edgy/tight clothing IS sexual excitement.
She likes it when strangers notice her sexually. It's like micro-cheating.
