make son smoke a pack of cigarettes to make him sick if i caught him smoking?
>>
Sounds not good to me. Give him the ol' dissaponted talk.
>>
bad? I dunno
Retarded? Yes

Momentary pain is a bad motivator. How old is he?
>>
>>17776066
I'd understand it's a rite of passage, and it's going to happen at some point in his underage lifetime, and while that might be a direction for certain children, I do not believe I'd force that punishment upon my own.

Chances are he'll potentially become addicted to the large amount of nicotine at once, and have one hell of a time breaking that addiction, and be a smoker for the rest of his now much shorter life.

But, if he's able to break the addiction at an early age, good on him, and you taught him a great lesson. But, it can go sour.

its hypothetical, i wouldnt do i anyways, i think its fucked up but i saw it on that 70s show

Nope, if my dad caught me smoking and did that it would be awesome, maybe a drink on the side, nice relaxing pace, also if you do that the son may crave nicotine leading to him smoking fully
>>
Torture? Bad?
Is this bait?
God Emporer win.
Torture the shit.
Fuck that child.
Show them who's in charge.
Show them yah.
Give cigarettes to minor.
Bwahaha.
>>
No you should strap him to an electric chair.
>>
There's a metric for how addicting a substance is, and nicotine is right on up there near the tippy top. If done enough, regardless of predisposition, or how enjoyable the experience is, you're edging towards activating that FoSB gene that'll make him irrational, impulsive, and emotionally dependent on that drug.

From a scientific standpoint, it's not a good idea. oldschool isn't always a good thing
>>
>>17776066
if youre that stupid you dont deserve kids
>>
>>17776066
Terrible idea. Don't do it

That reminds me of a parable:

Never try to teach a pig to sing.
It wastes your time and it annoys the pig.
>>
>>17776106
The first thing I thought of.
>>
>>17776066
Sounds pretty pointless. Also might help them to get addicted and/or lead to side effects like puking.

I smoked my first cig when I was 12, just trying it out with other kids and I didn't like it, hence didn't want to smoke for the next 8 years. Then I had another cig and kinda liked it but only a bit, then bought a pack and started to really like it after smoking the last cig.

If somebody would offer me a pack during the phase I didn't like it, it wouldn't make me dislike it any more. Hell, I might've enjoy it after a while and start for good.
>>
>>17776066
nicotine is chemically addictive you fool

yes you would make him sick
but you would also leave him craving cigarettes for a week
>>
>>17776220
is it just me or is this kinda punishment fucked up even though its supposed to make them dislike cigs? makibg your kid feel nausious on nicotine is awful
>>
>>17776066
thats fucking retarded.

Punishing a kid for doing drugs generally just makes them do more drugs to rebel. If the kid is younger than the legal age for smoking, then educate him on the topic, tell him why smoking is bad for you, and then tell him at this point it's illegal, but when he's 18 he will be able to make the decision for himself. If you are unable to explain to your kid why it's bad then you're a shitty parent for punishing a kid while you are ignorant on the topic yourself. Also if you smoke cigarettes yourself, you have no right to tell your kid not to smoke desu. I'm probably projecting a little because I had really shitty parents who didn't know what to do when they caught me smoking once, but I think this is the best course of action.
>>
I guess I'm lucky to have developed a kind of a feel for cigs, meaning I get sick when I think of them, even at parties I don't due them just for that sick, shit taste, it's just hard to explain

I smoked a bit as a teen, both at parties and when hanging out, but recently I just can't smoke them

You should explain your kid how shit cigarettes are in the sense of high you get from them, the price, easy chance of getting addicited, unattractive stench of smoke everywhere, and probably the health effects too
>>
Let me tell you something OP.

My dad was caught smoking -- he was a teenager, it was the 50s.

So, naturally like all fathers back in those days, his dad made him smoke the rest of the pack. He watched my dad puke, but forced him to keep going. You know what my dad did? He didn't quit. He kept smoked for the next 30-40 years, and only quit when I was born.

So, all this to say, that it wouldn't help him in the slightest to force your kid to smoke a whole pack.

>cigs in vending machine
really dates this strip
>>
>>17776066
Fuck off, retard. It could kill him (I remember reading about a guy who died after smoking 17 cigarettes in a row) or only make him a little lightheaded, depending on his nicotine tolerance. I had no problem with chain-smoking a pack on parties when I was in my late teens
>Chances are he'll potentially become addicted to the large amount of nicotine at once
That's not how addictions work. Jesus Christ, why is this board full of 12 y.o.?
>>
>>17776066

Sounds like a form of positive punishment.

I prefer positive reinforcement and educating him.

Give him the total freedom to smoke. But do educate him before you give him that freedom.

You can't stop him from smoking or trying it. Likely, you'll even make it more alluring to smoke.

>>17777390
Can still buy cigs from a vending machine, m8. Do you never go to casinos or bars?
>>
Met someone once who had a similar punishment. Instead of smoking the cigarettes though his mom made him eat three of them. I don't care if you call it fucked up, that's fantastic parenting.
>>
he gone smoke dem cigs cuz he wanna cuz, a teen cant just quit, his friends will have some more for him. accept it and tell him when u think smoking is affecting his paycheck or life
>>
>>17777916
>eating them

Fucking monstrous.

That shit doesn't work though. I got caught sneaking vodka when I was 14, my mom made me drink the remaining half bottle of warm vodka the next day. I got super hammered, screamed about politics for 4 hours and sobbed about how worthless I was. I think it ended up being more of a torture for them than me, and I'm still an alcoholic to this day. Instant gratification > half-remembered pain, every time.
>>

>I was 14
>drink the remaining half bottle of warm vodka
>I got super hammered
pussy
>>
>>17777938
She still gave you the alcohol in the intended manner though. Think you'd be an alcoholic if she made you shove the bottle up your ass?
>>
>>17777945
That might've been traumatic enough to get me to stay away from booze, but I hate being sober so much I imagine I'd just turn to hard drugs.

If you want your kid to not smoke, encourage them to educate themselves on the detriments. Not just "is bad 4u," get into shit like how it costs a retardedly large amount of money, makes your breath smell like shit and makes it so that some chicks won't touch you. All that makes more of an impact on teens than negative reinforcement, which generally just breeds rebellion and resentment.

Ultimately though, I don't think a person's parents ever have much of an impact on their vices. Comes more from their social group
>>
>>17776074
>being this retarded
Cognitive science grad student checking in. This is not how addiction works. It requires repeated exposure over a period of time (sometimes as little as a few days).
