Want to begin playing keyboards/synthesizer. What is my best choice of buying one if I want a sound like Devo/Rush/Ministry on a budget of $300-500? Is it possible?

Si, I already understand music theory and I originally played some piano in early childhood. I'm transitioning from Guitar.

I mean, yeah. You could get away with pretty much any sound with a 300$ keyboard and a laptop.
Make sure the keys have pressure and attack sensitivity.
Rolands and Casios are good and durable in my experience.
Make sure your keyboard is robust if you plant to tour with it.
Avoid plastics. And buy a stand you are gonna need it.
