Any Britbongs here know any city by London that's affordable?
What do you mean "by London"?

I'm not sure where I want to go, probably somewhere near that one bridge that fell
london is expensive as fuck pretty much everywhere
best bet is looking at places in east or south. north and west are gonna be expensive as fuck
croydon is probably gonna be your best bet. bit of a shithole but it's cheap and relatively far out while still being in the london area. it's also nowhere near as bad as people say it is. it's a bit rough around the edges but so are most places in the london area, as long as you're not an idiot and walking about late at night thru the council estate on your own then you won't get into any trouble

Yeah, I've been looking at Croydon. What about Basildon?

Not OP, what about for non-white people? I have just about avoided getting my head kicked in by chavs in London. Going to Croyden seems daunting.
basically anywhere with a direct train into london is gonna be expensive but try looking at reading or twyford, they have direct trains into london and not to bad on the cost front
Croydon used to be horrible but it's changed a LOT and I don't think its reputation has caught up yet. It's had a lot of new developments and kinda seemed like it was going the way of being gentrified, like a lot of South London has been.
It's definitely not 'cheap' but you can do a lot worse. That's probably where I'd go if I found a job in London, also because my parents' house is nearby. So obviously I'm a bit biased because I'm from around there, but I quite like Croydon.
If you wanna go south, Redhill, Coulsdon or anything on the Southern lines have good links into Victoria or LBG and aren't so expensive.
I currently live in Luton, which is pretty cheap and has good connections to central London, but it is a total fucking dump so I wouldn't really recommend living there for any other reason. If you can drive, there are lots of nice cheap places in the surrounding area but they have poor transport links.
