I'm south american. Chilean, more precisely. And you are right on worrying about her. Although coming for vacations is indeed a good idea on itself, doing a whole tour for five months all over latin america does not sound like a very good idea unless she decides to live here.

Chile is safer than the rest of our neighbors, but you must be always checking on your surroundings or you might be robbed. If you want to walk around safely, don't wear or show expensive stuff, and most importantly, DON'T FUCKING ACT AS A TOURIST! Dress properly, don't have a fuckhuge backpack, don't do shit that will give it away unless you outright speak.
