How do I learn to sing if I can't afford a teacher?

Sing, sing alot. Like every day. You will sound like ass at first but eventually you will get better. Maybe you can find some tips to help you along online.

I've gone from people screaming at me to stop to actually receiving compliments so it really works even if it takes a long time.

Oh and avoid dairy like the plague

Ay yeah this. Literally started singing on a drunken fit of energy three weeks ago and been singing since then on the daily, getting better everyday ! Now I can cover almost all of the Pink Floyd's album The wall correctly. Having some friendos playing music around helps too.
