one of my best friend loves to have serious conversations with people, and I have the reputation of being the most not serious person in our group. I have been wanting to have a serious conversation with him for about a year now, but I just don't know how to start that kind of conversation. So if any of you guys could give me any tips on how that would be much appreciated.

Don't

why not

Why would you? You're the non-serious one for a reason, and depending on what you have to be serious about you will probably just end up regretting it. These people like you because you aren't serious, they don't see you as someone past that.
I know I'm never doing it again

what happened after you did it if you don't mind me asking
The golden rule is don't force it. If you need to have a serious conversation with someone it will come naturally. otherwise you just look like a tryhard(coz you are)

Now I just can't feel comfortable. It's out there, we're not closer, and I have no idea if it'll ever come up and if it does, how it will. So while it's not really the end of the world for me, it's definitely worse and my relationship with them will never grow.

"Jack, I know I joke around a lot, but I've got something serious I need to work out in my mind. Can I bounce my thoughts off you?"
