This is probably the most realistic advice for OP. I've had some shit jobs before but couldn't imagine just standing around doing nothing all day

I've worked security, they had me guarding a locked empty room in a basement. Nobody could get in the room from outside, all the windows were thick reinforced glass, and the exterior door was at almost two inches thick with aluminum plating. I just sat at the desk until my shift ended and I went home, couldn't do much of anything with the security cameras watching me all the time.

I'd love to get paid to do nothing. I have to bust my ass at my job. If I'm caught doing so much as slowing down to 90% of my fastest pace, my boss reams me out and threatens to cut my hours. I'm fuckin exhausted by the time I get home and pretty much pass out immediately. My wife is worried about me, and she ends up having to do more than her share of the housework because I'm too tired to do more work after I finish work.

You have it good. Realize that. Think of how much shittier work could be. Combine that with above advice.

i work security while going to uni.
If youre allowed to do stuff on post just watch something on a tablet, or read a book.
I tend to just think about life and planning out my course of action when theres nothing to do. I usually have some interaction with people or phones/radio every 20min, so its not as draining for me.

I got mine over the summer, working 32hrs/week and going to uni full time.
pretty draining, but after these classes it will be smooth sailing til grad.

When I did security, at first we got some basic training, then after 4 months of working security we had to take 10 days of classes, including a first aid class, after which there was an oral and written exam, which you had to get at least a 90% on to get your actual security license.

At lot of people around here don't really have a choice, since security firms are the only ones who are always hiring and the job market sucks.
It is a transitional job at best, though, the license and experience are a great thing to add to your CV, I basically did the job for 6 months and then got the hell out, because the work was unbearable.

I'm guarding a hospital right now...just parked outside of a door in my car with nothing but time on my hands.
