"The computer is no less important an invention than the engine. "
Is the sentence grammatical? I think this order is wrong because "an" is in front of "important".
Please teach me why the sentence is correct.

it's correct.
It seems normal in text, but when I read it aloud it sounds weird.
The correct version is:
The computer is no less important of an invention than the engine.
why do guys have to pretend like they're Hemingway when they write? the computer and engine are equally important inventions
AN is placed infront when the first letter is a vowel. For example, "An intervention" and not "A intervention" because I is a vowel.

That's correct.
Thanks for response.

That's to say, "of" is left out, isn't it? Dose the omission permit?

I know the difference A and AN. My question is about the order of words.
I can't understand why the sentence is correct. Normally , "[a/an] [adjectives] [nouns]" is the correct order.

It's correct. The word "as" (before "an") is omitted as unnecessary to communicate the meaning of the sentence, just as "is important as an invention" is omitted from the end of the sentence.

"Of" is not correct in the meaning of the sentence.

I would think "as" and "of" are equivalent here. What does "of" mean different here?
