As the subject says. I've been contemplating a degree in economics, what I wanted to know is it worth it?
curious as well, although this might've been better asked somewhere else like /biz/

1) this should definitely be in /biz/ or better yet /adv/
2) You need to outline your desires and interests more clearly. It is worth it for some and not for others for a huge amount of reasons. Whoever is going to give you a solid answer needs context.

It pays pretty well, but at least a few economists I know think the field is facing a bit of a crisis right now. Their theories aren't really holding up to reality, people aren't behaving the way they expect, macro economic predictions are highly inaccurate, etc.

Where am I??????!!!!
It's only a meme degree if you don't have a plan for what you're going to do with it. This is true for all other degrees as well.

I'd say so. Accounting is much more practical.
Economics is a very large field, you need to be more specific. A major in finances with a minor in math can land you some jobs with impressive wages and low stress (at least if you know your shit). But then again, if that's what you want you'll probably be better off in a STEM field.
As pretty much any other field economics is worth it if you enjoy the field, but the thing is most people don't really know what it's about before they get into it so deep that they going a different route will be a huge time waste. And, again, no wonder they can't because the field is too large. You can't compare something like auditing to financial engineering. Most people have only a vague idea about the field before they get into it. "Economics, huh? That's like about money and numbers and stuff, right?"
So I suggest you pick a better defined career path and know why you chose it if you want to get into economics. Otherwise go for a STEM field.
