>it is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all

Am I the only one who finds this to be bullshit? It's been four years and I still haven't moved on. If I never experienced it I wouldn't know what I was missing.
>>
>>17677034
Have you had a girlfriend since?
>>
You just need to get under someone else
>>
>>17677034
>If I never experienced it I wouldn't know what I was missing.

Well, at least you've had a gf at some point. Damn sight better than I have done
>>
>>17677242
It hurts to know what you're missing

>>17677232
No, will that make it go away?
>>
no i agree with it. yes it hurts but it makes you better
>>
Losing love is like the Alamo to American history. Yeah that shit hurt and it sucked, but the lesson from the loss made you smarter and better. So as much as it hurt -- don't try to forget it.

Don't forget the fucking Alamo, you son of a bitch
>>
>>17677034

I can say with 100% certainty that I would be way, way, WAY more miserable if I had never dated anyone longterm. I miss her, and I miss the relationship, but I only miss the idealized version of it. The times when it was at its best. I don't miss all the bullshit I had to put up with.

I was already a wreck before I'd even gotten into the dating game with depression because I was lonely, because I thought that there was 'something wrong with me' because everyone in high school had dated and here I am going to college and I still was single.

It's been over 12 years since those days of depression. It's been 3 years since I was with her. I'm way happier now than I ever would have been staying single.

Going to need a greentext back story at least
>>
>>17677034

Recently out of a 3.5 year relationship, my first love and even this early without having moved on I can safely say I don't regret a thing. The last 3.5 years have been pure happiness, even if it ended we still love and care for each other and the experience has made us both better people. We might wind up back together one day, we might not, but real love is something worth experiencing.

not related to the topic, but hypothetical question:

if your best friend started a relationship with your ex and it turned to love, would you be okay about it?
>>
>>17677285
>No, will that make it go away?
Yes.
>>
>>17677616

That's a tough question, It would make me doubt who I thought I was with and probably make me care less about her if that's the kind of person she was, I would be hurt and never talk to them again but I would eventually be happy for them.
>>
>>17677034

You need to nut up and move on.
>>
I think the same as OP, sincerely. I had a few girls, not a lot, just a few, and I still will prefer to be alone without knowing what is losing someone who makes you special and who make you think your worthwhile.
>>
>>17677639

That's a depressing existence, being loved and loving someone else is one of the best things about life, fear of being hurt shouldn't hold you back from trying. If things don't last you have the memories, and there will always be a good reason why things didn't work out so you learn a little about what you need from your future partner.
>>
>>17677329
>Alamo

What's this now?
>>
>>17677657

Don't tell me that this yankee doodle fucking dandy son of a bitch forgot the Alamo
>>
>>17677285
Yeah, well I'm working on wizardry and likely to die alone. The fact that I have reasonable evidence (my entire life up till now) of no one being interested in me to infer that I'm completely undesirable is part of why I'm suicidal.

Feel the same way. Would have much rather continued living alone, than to have a girlfriend for 6 years before she died.

Now I'm more miserable than I could have ever possibly imagined, and i pray that I die in my sleep every night.

Not even kidding.
>>
>>17677241
Vastly under rated solution. Has always been the best medicine when I lost someone.
>>
>>17677681
>ancap
plz be ironic
>>
>>17677695
>assumes I'm for cap

be less narrow minded. we all need you anon
>>
>>17677709
They're the only ones I've heard who refer to others as "statist". No one identifies as statist. It just seems like an anarchist word for "not anarchist". And the only type of anarchist I've seen in years is the Randian variety.
>>
>>17677715

You're right, I shouldn't have brought labels into the conversation.

It seems like Alamo is one of those events surrounded by people who feel using violence to force their opinions on others is justified. Is there anything more to it?
>>
>>17677726
No idea, don't live in Jesus land. I just have a strong aversion to what seems to be a growing ancap culture on the interwebs. For the record I'm decently far socialist and libertarian on the political compass.
>>
>>17677732

Thank you for clarifying brother. I have a strong aversion to unprovoked violence. Why are you so concerned about "ancaps"?
>>
>>17677329
This...

Im hurting so bad right now.
>>
>>17677742
Well, from at least from the amount of ancap stuff I see bleeding into my regular haunts compared to a few years ago they seem to be much more prevalent and growing (ex. anarchy ball). I personally find being condescended to about how "all taxes are theft" and other such nonsense frustrating.

I agree unprovoked violence is bad.
>>
>>17677619
I've had three girlfriends since. I'm on year 8. Don't lie to people. You are allowed to say MOST people get over it that way, but you're implying that ALL people WILL get over it that way. That's not true. You're doing more harm than good by giving people false hope.
>>
>>17677759
>frustration

I don't intend to condescend your person at all. What differences do you see between taxation and armed robbery?
>>
>>17677768
I see taxes as mandatory contribution to the society you are a part of. The emergency services that ensure you don't die of an unexpected not-immediately fatal event like a heart attack or a violent mugging didn't fall out of a tree. Same goes for the roads they used to get to you that you use ever day. Same for the military that (in a functional country of a small enough scale to not fuck around in other's affairs) works as a safeguard against unprovoked violence on a large scale.

From an economic perspective: as a business owner you benefit from having customers and suppliers that have the roads to reach you, and services like police to prevent them from just being robbed trying to reach you to conduct business, nevermind the protection of any physical assets of your business. Even if you want to say you don't want to be forced to pay for police or roads for your own use; you're benefiting from the consumers you have access to because of it. Contribute.

Armed robbery is your physical assets being seized for entirely personal gain by a 3rd party. I agree tax money being spent in stupid ways is bad (I find it bullshit the divide in men's and women's health care spending, for example), but that doesn't mean to me that you throw the baby out with the bath water.
>>
>>17677803

Thank you for sharing. I'd like to share how I see things as well.

I see myself as a part of the human and the living society, a society that receives little benefit from taxation.

I see my brothers and sisters slaughtered day by day without any help from the services they're plundered for, while the roads that make pampered profiteers richer are toiled away on at the expense of the land and lives we share.

I have little interest in business, what benefit is there to it? I would rather enjoy life and help those around me to do the same. For me it is a means to an end.

I think I understand what you mean by throwing away the baby with the bath water. I'm terrified because I know I'm luckier than most anyone, and that luck can disappear in hours.

I'm more than happy to help my neighbor, but not when it seems like it only results in more and more suffering. I'm not suggesting that taxation be abolished, but I do think that the words we use to describe things are important. I do think we can do better, and I do believe we're trying.
>>
>>17677285
No. It didn't for me. However, I was able to realize the value of the quote in OP after these four years.
