Nothing works. I can't sleep more than three hours a night, if at all, and it's going on two months now. OTC sleep aids don't work. Prescription sleep aids don't work. Meditation doesn't work. Binaural beats mixed with meditation doesn't work. Drinking doesn't work. Xanax doesn't work. Xanax mixed with sleep aids doesn't work. Holistic/herbal remedies don't do anything. Cutting out all caffeine for days only succeeded in adding manic depression. I don't have the money required for therapy, if that's an actual solution. I don't know what to do. Any advice?

It's so hard to think. Has anyone killed themselves due to insomnia? Is that a thing? I tried looking it up to see if it's a thing and, shockingly, it doesn't seem that popular. That doesn't make sense.

I notice that neither intense exercise nor ASMR are on that list. Exercise, in particular, might be worth a try.

Oh, and you could try varying the timing of your meals. I had trouble sleeping, then started eating dinner much earlier, and it helped considerably.

And then there's cutting down on internet use, especially before bed. Glowing rectangles do not make it easy to sleep, especially if they're the only light source in the room.

(I don't think any of these will be a magic bullet, but they're better than giving up.)

What helped me was a combination of ambien, exercise, healthier diet and just better sleeping hygiene habits: going to sleep always at the same time, waking up always at the same time, no naps, eating 2-3 hours before sleep, eating light for dinner, no computer or cellphone in bed, reading, etc.

Consider that when I started taking ambien I would go to bed at 10 PM, fall asleep at 11 PM and wake up at 3 AM regularly.

I haven't tried ASMR. I guess that's worth a shot. And yeah I've tried exercise, though I'm not sure what you consider intense. It's mostly cardio. Usually the problem is that when I actually fall asleep, I don't stay asleep longer than a couple hours- no matter how little accumulative sleep I've had.

I've read quite a few articles that tend to include this. I use the computer a lot throughout the day, so I'm sure it's not really helping the issue, but I'm not sure how long I need to stay off it leading up to going to bed. I've also moved my computer out of my bedroom a while ago, along with pretty much everything else except my bed, in an attempt to remove any "vibe" other than "sleep" from the room.

Did Ambien ever make you hallucinate? I'm asking because that keeps happening to me when I've tried it.

Yes you have to actively try to sleep after taking it or you'll stay awake and weird shit happens.

Yup.
You have to go to bed. I used to take ambien and then just act like whatever till I was tired, and got hallucinations, got paranoid, horny and emotional.
After I called a friend of mine at 3 AM with a panic attack which I didn't even remember about in the morning, or fell asleep on the kitchen table while I was watching porn (and that's how my roommate found me the morning after), I learned that ambien means 1) going to bed 2) watching pics of puppies till I'm tired 3) rest.

>Manic depression
So you're Bi polar OP?
You said you probably couldn't afford insomnia therapy. Can you afford medication for your bi polar disorder? If you're not medicated you might be in some sort of manic phase of your bi polar disorder that is making you feel unusually energized.
>I use the computer a lot throughout the day, so I'm sure it's not really helping the issue

Oh trust me, it's making a huge difference. Doctor had a convo with me about this and I had this same problem. Even if i've been up for 19 hours if I get off my computer after 19 hours i'll feel as wide awake as if its the middle of the afternoon. You should get off the computer a few hours before bed.

What do you mean you get manic when you don't drink caffeine? I thought it was the opposite. Either way the caffeine is playing a huge role in your sleep issues too. You've got to quit it.

Definitely don't mix alcohol with any sleep meds to try and go to sleep. Thats dangerous. Alcohol is known to make your quality of sleep worse even if it helps you fall asleep so try not to use it to fall asleep.

I tried ambien and it gave me insomnia for a few days after I tried to sleep without it. If you're cycling on and off sleep med dependency as you try different methods that might be doing something similar to you.

See a doctor about this if nothing is working. Try to get your family to help you out with this because only getting that little sleep for so long is extremely bad for you

It is possible you have undiagnosed sleep apnea. My father had problems sleeping for decades and once it got diagnosed and he got the breathing machine can sleep easily.

Didn't solve any of his other problems, but he was definitely improved.
