How long does it take to tell if you can grow a beard or not?

Everything I've read says 4-6 weeks.

What might it look like in that time? Any personal experiences?

It depends on your genetics. My facial hair grows slow as fuck. A guy at my work would trim his shit all the way down to no guard and a week later it was back to almost an inch.

I've never tried to grow a beard, but I have zero shadow on anything but upper and lower lip, chin, and sides of mouth. Nothing on cheeks or sideburns. Should I even try? I have lighter hair color.
