I went into Winn-Co. I put 3 suckers in my pocket and a strawberry-banana nectar in my other pocket. 98 cents. 98 fucking cents worth of merchandise. And I got a 250$ dollar fine.

People who don't think capitalistic companies are greedy and fucking over the people, not only with what they charge and sell, but how exploitative the fine is, are fucking stupid.

Anyway, HOW CAN I AVOID THIS FINE???

I'm broke as a choke, and I'm moving from Oregon to Tennessee this Friday. Is there anyway I can avoid this fine? And what will the penalties for that be? Damaging my credit? Court? Sue? Arrest?

And is this on my permanent record? They have a photo of me (grinning real wide) and the LP said it was only going on their system, but I'm not sure what to think.

Any information is appreciated.
>>
You don't.

Hardly seems worth it, does it? Lesson fucking learned.

How old are you and where is your location?
>>
>>17661354

You avoid it by getting a good lawyer.
But since you're probably too poor for anything but a public defender, he could probably get you a plea deal such that the charge is expunged after a couple of years?
Wouldn't be on your "permanent record" then, but you'd still have to pay the fine/do community service/whatever.
>>
>>17661387

This is not a situation where getting a lawyer is applicable. When OP was caught at the store and interrogated by LP, that would have been the time to ask for a lawyer. But also by requesting legal representation, that would mean LP was getting the police involved.

The fine is the resolution, unless OP wants to contest it in court, which considering they are actually guilty, would be pretty stupid.

Pay the fine, OP.
>>
>>17661404
That's what I meant. They could probably get a lower sentence if they actually took it to court, but considering OP is leaving the state that would probably just be a hassle.

>>17661354
Alternately I'd bet you could get away with just not paying it since you're leaving the state. The odds of them pursuing you seem pretty low.

I'm 18 years old.

I am mostly wondering about how leaving the state is going to affect this. I was reading online about only 50% of these fines being payed, the rest being avoided, and only about a 1/10th of the people not paying getting prosecuted.

I kind of feel like I can avoid prosecution through moving and not changing my address?
>>
>>17661354
A lot of states also have laws saying that if a poor person can't pay a fine they have to offer an alternate punishment, usually community service.
>>
>>17661417

It's a misdemeanor.

None of what you said makes any sense. Whoever convinced you that you can avoid paying it is an idiot.

Pay the fine.
>>
>>17661416

Not to mention I sure as fuck wouldn't challenge something I sure am guilty of, and with really easy proof against me.

This is what being an adult is supposed to mean. You don't do shit like this. You learn from your mistakes and you take responsibility for them. You don't try and trick yourself out of consequences you EARNED by fucking up.

They told me to write a letter to them if I couldn't make my first payment of 35$ on the 10th of November explaining why and they will work with me. Kind of thinking about writing up a sob story about my living situation and how I need all of my money for rent and food currently, and hopefully get an alternate punishment like community service like you said.

I'm located in Oregon by the way guys.
>>
>>17661426
This forum is for advice, not moralizing.
Either make yourself useful or move along.
>>
>Bla bla bla, I am an idiot, capitalistic society, bla bla bla
That might be a valid point if you had stolen from Walmart, but Winco is employee owned, they pay a living wage, even while providing the customer a good value.
Get fucked, thief.
>>
>>17661439

The two are not mutually exclusive, particularly in this case. OP is desperate to duck out on this, which is a very stupid thing to do.

You don't see me grandizing about OP being a terrible person for shoplifting or for wanting to get out of the responsibility for their actions. You see me ADVISING OP on what the smart thing to do would be.
>>
>>17661454
You're actually right about this (this is OP). I didn't think about that with Winco. No wonder they don't have a non prosecution policy for under 10 dollars of theft.
>>
>>17661454

Pinching from Walmart isn't so forgivable either. The people that run that capitalistic machine or whatever aren't going to be affected by what you do. It's the little guy who will get fucked because inventory is missing or because they couldn't make a LP quota.
>>
>>17661468
You're an idiot if you think shoplifting affects the "little guys" at places like Fred Meyer or Walmart.
>>
>>17661471

I'm not an idiot, I know for a fact that it can. The district I worked in a few years ago had their annual bonuses cut because shrinkage had gone up. Do you think the guy who signed my paychecks felt any of that?
>>
What part of tennessee are you moving to? I'm from knoxville, actually have a couple of friends from Eugene

If you don't feel like paying fines then don't be a fucking thief. Doesn't matter how much the merchandise was, you stole something.

If the fines were small and insignificant then assholes like you would be wandering into their store all the time swiping cheap goods.

This seems more like a cautionary tale about your stupidity as opposed to the evils of capitalism. I dunno what the solution to your problem is, man. Don't be a fuckhead and just fork out the 98 cents next time,.
>>
Oh, for crying out loud...

You're moving across the country, they aren't going to chase you down. Just leave and get on with your life.
>>
>>17661354

>get caught stealing candy
>blame corporate greed

I really don't see how anyone could help you. You're just the worst.
>>
>>17661354
are you black ?
>>
>>17661423
This.
>>
>>17661587

It isn't a court ordered fine - it is a shakedown where the corporate office says they won't prosecute if you pay them off.
>>
>>17661598

It's not a shakedown. It's a civil demand in lieu of pursuing the matter through direct law enforcement. Similar handlings are done with collections agencies for credit clients. Ignoring it would be quite foolish.
>>
>>17661695

Why would it be foolish?

OP won't be extradited on criminal charges.
>>
>>17661761

The business OP stole from likely has video evidence of the crime. I couldn't guarantee without seeing the wording of the paperwork that filed the civil demand, but I'm willing to bet that could easily pass as an admission of guilt.

Just as with a traffic ticket, luck alone will get you out of something like this - that is, if you're lucky enough that the business would consider the hassle not worth it to pursue. But there's no guarantee of that.

>stealing lollipops to fight dah powah

Lol typical che guerva tshirt wearing Sanders fag.

COMRADE! THE LOLIS ARE THE PEOPLE'S!
>>
>>17661354
Ignore every letter they send to you. If you've responded already you're fucked because you've essentially acknowledged your wrongdoing.

Maybe stop being an edgy anarcho-communist fuck and don't steal shit next time.
>>
>>17661354
Yeah you fix it by not stealing.
>>
>>17661539
This to be honest.
250 seems a bit steep, but they had a fucking payment plan ready to go so..
>>
Mandatory threadly reminder that taking legal advice from online strangers is a bad, bad idea.
>>
>Break into OP's house
>Steal some some
>"OMG. It was $3 AT MOST. Fucking greey jew."

You sound this retarded. I hope you're thrown in prison and raped.
>>
>>17661354
It costs them at least $250 in personnel time, paperwork, security system, court fees, etc. to process you, so why shouldn't you pay for it?
>>
>>17662292
>Stealing from someone's home is the same as stealing from a massive money hoarding corporation
>>
>>17662513

How is it different? It's still stealing.

Read some Stirner and start thinking for yourself you stupid fucking goy. Study economics while you're at it
>>
>>17662513
Yeah, because there's no backlash for the employees. Yep, only the top dogs suffer for this. Especially if you steal from employee owned winco stores.

I think you're fucking stupid for stealing that merch and then whining about some "oppressive capitalistic complex" or some shit when you get caught as if it's their fault you're bad
>>
>>17661354
I have no sympathy for you. You weren't even stealing essentials because you are poor and can't afford to eat.

I despise you. $250 is way too low.
>>
>>17662706
Yeah, honestly we'd all have less of a problem with him if he didn't try and blame his predicament on "muh greedy capitalist pigs!"
>>
>'c-capitalist pigs!'
>runs off in pocket change worth of candy

I hope they prosecute your ass, not for the petty theft, but for the keks.
>>
ITT: pay the fine

You can't? Steal and pay the fine

Got caught again? be a boypussy in jail.

Or just pay the fine.
>>
Hey man, you want some real advice?

Pay your fines.

I fucking wish someone convinced me to pay my fines in my early 20s, because now in my late 20s it's ruined my fucking life. My last two years have been an uphill struggle, I've lost around $2000, so on and so forth.

Just fucking do it you gigantic baby.
>>
What part of Oregon? Bendfag here.
>>
One time I technically stole a 62 cent bottle of flavored water because I forgot to remind the cashier that I had it. It was sitting in the top part of the shopping cart, not the basket itself. It was like 6pm and I had just got done a 9 hour shift at Walmart (yes I shop where I work, because I don't make enough to begin with). So the loss wasn't big but it was still a loss. I kinda felt really bad about it
>>
>>17661354
>I stole
>I got caught
>I think the fine shouldn't apply to me because I think I need things more than the company that relies on selling things
>food banks? never thought of them, but stealing was a-OK in my head
OP, we aren't going to be able to help you because you want a magic fix that fits your world view.
You might have read some anecdote somewhere, but it won't mean you have a similar outcome.
There's a saying where I'm from, that saying is:
You can't help stupid.

You can't tell a drunk person they need to call it a night and head home
You can't teach an angry person to calm down when they believe they know who wronged them
You can't teach someone who is bad with money not to take out a payday loan
You can't teach you to stop being a thieving faggot

OP, you fucked up, pay your fine and move on with your life, you learned an important lesson, you don't need candy to live, if you were hard done by and needed food you wouldn't have stolen sweets.
>>
Didn't realize 4chan had so many goys. Stealing from Win-Co is foolish, but watching all of you begging to get ass fucked by corporations homogenizing your society is pretty sad.
>But m-muh morals! Stealing is w-wrong!
As if they don't steal from the American people everyday. Good lord
>>
>>17661354
How the fuck did you get caught? Store employees can't search you or anything. You should have just denied having stolen anything and left.
>>
>>17662513
Hilarious because winnco is an employee owned co-op.
>>
>>17661354
Lol enjoy your bench warrant, degenerate
>>

>>

>can't even shoplift small candy
>literally the easiest thing to steal

You deserve it for being that retarded. Maybe be a bit more aware of your surroundings next time you decide to heist some sweets and you won't have to pay the price for being a rash idiot.
>>
>STEAL Fucking nothing of value like a degen
>blame the store for your actions
>complain it's justified since greedy "capitilistic companies" for what they charge amd sell and how "exploitative the fine is"
>even though it's 98 fucking cents how dare they charge that
>even though you obviously want what they sell, since you stole it
>even though it's actually an employee owned coop.
>even though the fine is from the state for theft and has nothing to do with "muuh corporations"
>even though exploitation would require them to benefit from a measeley $250
>which is used soley as a deterrent and probably barely covers administration costs.
Why do i share this planet with people like you?
>Oregon
Colour me not surprised.
You won't like it in tenesse.
>>17664010
No private corporation has ever stolen your property. Why do heart bleed leftists not grasp what theft or exploitation are?
