It's because unlike a lot of animals, humans don't have a mating season. Our who life is our mating seasons. The human mating season has been going on for the last 200,000 years, or however old we are. We are by far the most sex crazed species to ever exist. It's why we have civilization though, men build things and acquire skills, to make themselves useful in society. This in turn raises their status and through useful service they acquire resources. This make the women want to fuck them. Men who aren't interested in women are subconsciously assumed to be dead-weight. People probably don't even realize they feel this way. The same is assumed about women, but to a lesser degree, because no one expects them to do anything useful in society beyond child rearing. When a woman can't find a man to take care of her she becomes society's problem.
