Anyone quit cigarettes or any other addiction lately? I quit cigarettes a while ago but lately I picked up a pack. Just trying to make it easier to wean by making this thread.

Personally, to distract myself from buying more cigarettes I try to do some sort of physical exercise. It sucks but it works. Anyone want to share and turn this into a decent thread?

recovered alcoholic, 20 years sober

fill you life with activity
build, create, run around, have fun
as soon as you stop to think, especially at the beginning, your thoughts all wander to the same place - my old addiction
>>
Porn addict, 5 months clean.

I used to be addicted to porn. Talking twice to three times a day. I would justify by saying "oh doctors say guy who fap a lot have lower chance to get prostate cancer" and would fap away to my hearts content. But then I just noticed I needed to do it everyday and the porn got worse. It got to the point where I needed to see some nasty german shit to get off.

Anyway I just substituted cold showers and meditation to my daily routine. I would eat dinner earlier and go to bed earlier to not tempt myself. I also have a journal to keep my thoughts in and make it religious to do it every night.

This is true, for anyone wondering.

Take this man's advice. Distract yourself with wholesome activity.

Cold showers and meditation was enough to stop a 2-3 times a day masturbation habit?

20 year soberino here
distraction doesn't mean to avoid your problem either
at first its hard to keep focus but over time it gets easier
you always think about the addiction and sometimes even fool yourself that you would be ok to go back again
but i find the longer you are healthy, the easier it is to fill your life with other things that make life worth living and enjoying
after all isn't that what we are all after - sober or not?

I just quit taking Kratom a few days ago. I feel..I don't know - a bit lethargic, draggy. It's very forgiving in terms of withdrawal, but it can definitely become addictive if you take it every day for 6 months. But I got out and talked to some people today, and realized that most of what I was feeling was a result of isolating myself and not really having anybody to talk to. I don't have a job right now, but when I was taking kratom (basically, if you take the amount I was taking, it's almost like being on a couple vicodin pills all day) I literally didn't give a shit. Probably a good thing that I gave it up. Sucks that you can't do drugs everyday without ruining something and going through a lot of pain.

I quit smoking 2 years ago. I quit when school started so I would be distracted most of the time. Didn't go smoothly at first, I kept buying packs every now and then for the first couple of weeks until I acknowledged that that was a pattern and I managed to stop. I've smoked a couple times in those 2 years, all isolated incidents though. I still struggle with it obviously. I do consider myself quit because it's not a habit anymore. Honestly what keeps me from going back is the deep, deep disappointment I'd feel and I try to reframe how I see cigarettes and smoking. It's just companies selling you cancer for profit.

I kinda quit cigarettes. I was never really addicted, I recently went on a vacation with friends and decided to live a little. Pretty much got drunk and smoked a few cigarettes every night while I was away. I had smoked before this but this time it was on a daily basis (about a week). When I got home I bought 2 more packs (I was smoking Marlboro Midnights) and after that I kinda just stopped. I'm a guy with long hair so I didn't like the smell sticking to me unless I followed a ritual that would make you guys believe I was autistic if I said it.

I felt good from having them and never had any throat problems but on the flip side I never went thru any withdrawals like other people I know have been describing, it's pretty weird but I'm not gonna test my luck. I'm only gonna have a cigarette or 6 when I'm out drinking, I noticed it feels a lot better when you pair them together rather than doing either separate.

Anyway last thing which is weird is I usually forget about cigarettes completely through out the day but anytime I see a picture with a cigarette, walk near someone smoking or hear about it in conversation, THAT'S when I feel like having one. It's so weird how the mind works.
