My gf and I both work low paying jobs. We have enough to live decently alone, but we want to eventually get married and have kids.

But the problem is that kids are fucking expensive and we simply could not support them without govt support. How do people nowadays do it?

I'd ask my friends but all of them who are poor are in a similar situation.

I live in america btw
>>
Please impart some advice. My parents have no idea. My dad said that in his day he was able to support our whole family on just his own pay, but now wages have gone too low for that.
>>
Dude, try to figure out how obtain a higher paid job and postpone your plans.
>>
>>17576708
Not possible. I live in a hicktown where there is stiff competition for even msdonalds jobs.
>>
Make more money then you're skilled for/ supposed to make. That's pretty much it. All of these higher ups, the easy sit down, tell what other people to do jobs are supposedly the ones that are holding this country together and deserve to get paid more, not the people doing the actual fucking work.
>>
>>17576710
Oh well. Why didnt you burn 4 years on an engineer degree like every career meme faggot?
>>
>>17576659
you adjust your budget to the life of a family and not just a couple, one way or the other.
>>
>>17576659
>How do people nowadays do it?
They don't, that's one of the reasons Western populations are declining and we need to import brown hordes from countries where each woman shits out 50 kids.
>>
>>17576726
So how about we pay people decent wages to remedy that problem? Like I said my dad used to be able to take care of us all with a factory job, but that factory is now gone.
>>
Now it's common to use govt assistance for us in our generation. I know that most of my friends who had kids are middle class but since we live in the city with the highest rent, i know they usually get baby stuff through WIC. Other things like baby/toddler clothes are usually always donated by moms because babies grow up so fast they dont even get to wear all their clothes.
The rest is just school supplies, necessary clothes, food, etc.
You don't really have to worry too much until kids turn 18 when it's time for college, their first car, etc
>>
>>17576659
Don't have children if you won't be able to keep a roof over their heads or feed them. You are not entitled to have children. We don't need more people raised in fucked up homes.
>>
>>17576741
>So how about we pay people decent wages to remedy that problem?
Because it's cheaper to let some Chinese peasants do the job. Thank Globalism, something both leftwing and rightwing politicians love. You'll never have a decent standard of living again and you just have to accept that.
>>
>>17576749
Shit, yeah. That's what I thought it would come down to. I hate to use it, but I will if I have no other choice.

I'd be pretty sad that I wouldn't be able to give my kid any sort of luxury. And kids raised this poor tend not to turn out so good (like me lel), and I am legitimately concerned about that

>>17576755
Yeah. There are a lot of trailer parks near where I'm at and the kids that come out of there are never pleasant or that smart.

Still, it's pretty fucked up that I have to even make this choice

>>17576756
Globalism? Are you thinking of capitalism?
>>
>>17576759
>Globalism? Are you thinking of capitalism?
No, there's no reason you couldn't have a capitalist society completely closed off from the rest of the world.
>>
>>17576762
I see. But isn't capitalism against things like healthcare, education, and a good minimum wage?
>>
>>17576769
>But isn't capitalism against things like healthcare, education, and a good minimum wage?
No country is purely capitalist. Most Western countries have all of the above while still generally being capitalist.
>>
One of you could join the military for 4 years. That would enable you to get a free education once you get out and afford kids comfortably. That's what we did. Getting deployed 3 times and 100% rated disability helped too.
>>
>>17576812
>100% rated disability helped too.
What does this mean? You got your legs blown off or something?
>>
>>17576659
you dont. the masses are being priced out procreation for a fucking reason.

>>17576779
theyre called 'mixed economies' with some europeans countries coming closer to whats called 'democratic socialism'

>>17576769
capitalism is an economic structure. its not a sentient being that favors or is against things. at its basis its simply private non-government owners buying and selling in a free market, unless the masses decide the government needs to step in and change things (in reality its corporation coercing the government into doing favors that enable their special interests)

>>17576762
if you need resources that you cant obtain within your own nations borders you trade to obtain them from another nations outside your borders. if enough countries are trading a fuckton of stuff with every other country, you have whats called a globalized economy.
>>
>>17576824
>you dont. the masses are being priced out procreation for a fucking reason
For what reason?

Also thanks for the informative post
>>
>>17576832
because people that have achieved financial, professional, and social success produce better offspring that people that only succeed at the latter. actually i kinda lied, its not a deliberate thing, thats the effects of current economic trends lead too. i personally think its a good thing
>>
>>17576839
Well I don't think it's a good thing. I'm being cheated out of a normal life. That upsets me
>>
>>17576659

How do people in 3rd world countries have kids, you think they are all fucking millionaires?

Having kids doesn't have to be expensive, kids don't really give a shit about expensive things.
>>
>>17576741
>implying we working people hold the decision as to who gets paid what
ya man, while we're at it, halve CEO salaries!!

ya /adv/ with the grate /adv/
>>
>>17576846
cost of living is a lot cheaper in third world countries smarty pants. if youre having a hard time making ends meet for two people a third is just going to make things harder. thats why we have things like tax deductions/credits for people that have kids to give them an incentive to actually have kids but the current economic situation makes in difficult even with those incentives.

>>17576843
i know how you feel man, i want to fuck thousands of bitches but im being cheated out of that too. oh well.
>>
>>17576864
>I want to fuck thousands of bitches but im being cheated out of that too. oh well.
This is not at all comparable to wanting to have a family and you fucking know it
>>
>>17576875
okay my bad but these ARE external factors. the obvious answer for you is to get a better fucking job but you seem to be too stupid too think of that
>>
>>17576864

People have lived with very little and still manage to have kids. How much do you think it costs to have a kid?

Maybe you should cut back your expenses if you can't afford shit. Live in cheaper places.
>>
>>17576882
Ah of course, just get a better job. Wow such a great idea why didn't I think of it? I mean there is literally no way that would be near impossible. Why don't all poor just get better jobs lmao
>>
>>17576864
>to give them an incentive to actually have kids

people who want to have kids AND are willing to adapt their current lifestyle will always get kids, tax deductions or not.

those who whine about it being so expensive really don't want any kids.
>>
>>17576886
im not the one trying to have kids

>>17576888
>>17576888
>near impossible
difficult isnt "near impossible" smarty pants.

>Why don't all poor just get better jobs lmao
poverty is about 15%. for every 10 families 8 of them are pulling their own weight. do some soul searching and figure out why youre going to be the one of the two that cant then come back and try again
>>
>>17576918
well if you dont have deductions and credits you're literally being punished for having kids. but its pretty hard to deny that its getting more and more expensive to have kids these days
>>
>>17576839
>i personally think its a good thing
Except birthrates are only decreasing in Western nations while the global population still continues to increase. It's basically dysgenics, locking out the average person from reproducing while letting the less successful continue to do so. How can you possibly interpret this as a good thing?
>>
>>17576928
deductions and benefits can only make it easier and cheaper to raise a child.
but if you really don't want any, and you come up with all kinds of excuse, no money-shower will change that.

if anything, these programs should focus on why people don't want to get kids in the first place, and not on how to finance having kids.

most of the time it's stuff like "we are both working, and there are no kindergarden/daycares anywhere" etc.

look at denmark (or sweden, can't remember), were kids are GUARANTEED a spot in daycare, and the parents can work and have careers and shit.
>>
>>17576934
>How can you possibly interpret this as a good thing?
because the developing world will experience this too once they get comfy lifestyles and decide having kids isnt worth it. then theyre populations will start tapering and hopefully we'll be back down to 1 billion or less by 2200 ish. ive spend too much time on this thread though now. see ya
>>
>first world problems
My grannie had 10 kids and managed to raise them with close to nothing and they turned out fine
>>
>>17576947
>deductions and benefits can only make it easier and cheaper to raise a child.
pretty much what i said to begin with, theyre 'incentives' to have kids, not pay your kids expenses in full.

>if anything, these programs should focus on why people don't want to get kids in the first place, and not on how to finance having kids.
people are finding other things to give themselves meaning other than i have to have kids because muh legacy plus its a really expensive headache.

>look at denmark (or sweden, can't remember), were kids are GUARANTEED a spot in daycare, and the parents can work and have careers and shit.

uh dont most of the northern european countries also have paternity leave for the father as well? thats literally the same as the incentives mentioned earlier, and europe is in the same position we are in in terms of population growth. having kids just sucks

>>17576950
quality>quantity is the way to raise kids. youre not going to give all 7 of your kids rides to theyre shitty mcjob everyday until they buy their own ride. any parent that isnt a complete shitbag will help them pay for their first car and some of college so they have a decent shot at financial success
>>
>>17576819
Shoulder surgery due to combatives, hemherroids as a result of heavy gear, heat, hours of sitting, PTSD (omg the nightmares *wink wink*), and close proximity to multiple explosions, TBI can't be truly diagnosed except by autopsy, so they're being really cautious now. The bolts in the shoulder aren't a huge deal, it's really the hemherroids that affect the quality of life. It's not a commonly known thing, but it's rampant among soldiers.
>>
>>17576966
Let them handle life you faggot.Hurr durr they won't have a car. You're born in the richest country on earth.Your kid has every possibility to make it on his own.Guess what, you're not Donald Trump.Your kid will have to earn it.
