How old is your son? I'm not familiar with UK's education system but I will tell you from experience something: wanting to do something and actually getting to it are completely different things.

I was a dumb kid who liked to use computers, so I thought "why not study computer science?" Yeah it just didn't happen. I hated the classes and found them extremely boring.

If your son has thought out a path fro himself then great, if he is just saying "something in science" then he better start thinking what exactly since science is quite a broad field.

OP is stupid. A BTEC in Applied Science will get you further than A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics will. The reason being is that there are actual experiments involved with Applied Science, A Level is all based on theory work and exams. Which student will a laboratory want to employ? One who has worked in a lab setting or a student who has read about a lab setting? There are also more modules in Applied Science including Forensic Science, Criminology and Medical Science. So yeah, job prospects are actually greater with the Applied Science course.
