I have been trying to work out Speed, Distance and Time tests

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

I have been trying to work out Speed, Distance and Time tests for a job interview and most of them are fine. But there's this one type of problem that always fucks me over.

Basically it's the Speed Questions. Sometimes it's easy. But sometimes it's fucking impossible.

Here's an example of the question I cannot answer:

What speed covers 81km in 2 and 1/4 hours?

So I go to the equation which as we all know is Speed= Distance over Time. So that's 81 divided by 2 and 1/4 or 81 divided by 9/4 which is 81 x 4/1 which is 324/81/ which 4/1.

How do I get from 4/1 to the answer given in the textbook I'm working from, which is 36km an hour?! How the fuck does that work? HOW THE FUCK DOES THAT WORK?!
>>
81/2.25=36

Convert to decimals it's easier.

Holy shit, I've been barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks so much.
>>
>>17521893
By the way, the textbook I had DIDN'T SAY THAT IN IT'S WHOLE THING ABOUT SPEED, DISTANCE TIME TESTS.
>>
Meanwhile all my jobs have asked for accounting knowledge or extensive experience with random software X.

WHY CAN'T MY INTERVIEWS BE THISBEASY
>>
>>17521915
Because this is only part of a week long interview involving extreme physical fitness and other garbage.
>>
>>17521895
Alright, hang on, it was working fine but then I did this practice questions.

What speed covers 27 miles in 40 minutes?

Alright, 40 minutes= 2/3 which is 0.66.

Crap.

I did a bunch of shit to try and work it out but it didn't work, needless to say.

How do you deal with these? Because the fraction method given actually would have worked here (boils down to 81/2 which is 40.5 mph).
>>
>>17521923
Ayyy at least you had an interview. I've gotten one so far.

>>17521929
Just use dimensional analysis. Write it all out.

HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THIS JOB???
>>
>>17521951
Army Officer. I've got main board in a month.
>>
>>17521929
Seriously?
27/.66=40.9 mph
>>
>>17521955
What do you need the physics for? Is that test to see where they place you?
>>
>>17521973
Actually 2/3 is .666666666 forever so if you use that you get 40.50000000.... so the answer is 40.5
>>
>>17521879
Jesus Christ
underage (I hope)?
>>
>>17521976
No, it's part of the numerical reasoning test where you have a short amount of time to get through as many questions as possible.

>>17522000
No, but maths was never my strong point. I get about 80% of the questions correct on the practice tests I've been doing but I'm trying to iron out the wrinkles.
>>
>>17521973
>>17521994

I don't get a calculator.
>>
You guys are all dumb. Look at it this way

It takes 2/3 of an hour to go 27 miles

2/3 of what is 27?
Take 27 and split it in 2 to get your 1/3. 13.5.

So 13.5 x 3 = 40.5

If you did 40.5 mph for 3/3 of an hour...2/3 of an hour is 27.
>>
>>17522040
Get it?
>>
>>17521879
when i do this in my head, these are the steps i do
2.25 = 9/4
81/2.25 = 81/(9/4) = 4*(81/9) = 4*9 = 36km/hr

>>17521929
27/(40/60) = (3/2)*27 = 40.5

this is math thats taught when youre 10 years old...
>>
>>17522075
But how does the 27, which represents the 2 become 40.5? Sure it should be 16?
>>
>>17522079
what? 27 is the distance. 40 minutes is (40/60) hours. 40/60 = 4/6 = 2/3

dividing by (a/b) is equivalent to multiplying by (b/a) when neither a or b is equal to 0
>>
>>17522105
Why would it be equal to zero?
>>
>>17522107
okay im done
>>
>>17522040
