Pay yourself first. Decide how much you will set aside from each paycheck after calculating your expenses, then set up your bank account to automatically transfer that amount into another account when your paycheck gets deposited. Out of sight, out of mind. This helps prevent you from spending the money you want to save.

Also, you may want to start only carrying cash. It can be very easy to rack up the transactions on a debit or credit card. With cash, you have to physically hand over the money which can make you more aware of how much you are spending. Plus, you can allot yourself X amount of money to have on hand and make that the extent of your spending money.

Well, I generally get paid about 300-400 dollars every two weeks. So roughly 800 a month. I pay my necessary items first, which in this case is just my phone bill 48 a month. Plus I take my gf out on dates. I'm thinking I take out 40 every pay check and save the rest? Pay my phone first and afterwards take the money out. Does that seem like a good way to do it?
