Do northerners really think saying y'all is weird/funny?

I say it but I'm from the southwest. Not sure if it counts.

I say it and i am on the west coast myself.
I've found that only certain northerners, like around NJ and NY will get weirded out by it, like it somehow automatically makes you a hick, but then again only a few people are really rude enough to make a big deal out of it. I honestly prefer a southern drawl to the way yankees speak, but that is just me. To each their own.

I do. I can't hear it without thinking "is this from a western or something?". I sure hope "y'all" isn't included in academic writing.

It's odd in the non-hick parts of MD.

There no instance where i would address my audience as "you all" or "y'all". I do include y'all in text speech though.

I'm from Missouri, STL area for the most part, college in southern MO. It's fucking hilarious to me how when you get into southern MO, they like to pretend they're fucking texas. Giant ass pick up trucks, cowboy hats and boots, all describe themselves as "Gud ole fashion cuntry boies and gals"
I unfortunately picked up "Y'all" in my time there, ironically my sister went to fucking school in goddamn Georgia and heard "Y'all" far less than I did.
But I'll admit, I tend to only use Y'all sarcastically or humorously. Like "Y'all need Jesus". I hardly ever use it seriously lol.
It depends on how it's said.

Just regular conversation or casual speaking.
>how are y'all doing
>what are y'all doing?
>i want y'all to start working
>y'all are silly
