Ok, I think its coming.

I'm about to get kicked out of my home There is just too much friction and division building in the family. I probably have a week/fortnight or a month tops.

I've got a permanent part time position work wise, though it doesn't pay well, I have a wide variety of marketable skills, activities and extensive volunteering experience on my resume, and I am starting to send off applications in about about an hour after I listing and start packing my essentials quietly.

I've got about $3000 to my name with a clear credit card. I'm very proficient in outdoors survival, I can live in my car for a little while if necessary, but it is co-owned by my father so I cant really count it as an asset.

I'm a reforming NEET so my social skills aren't really top notch but they'll do for now, on the up side I am pretty much fine with social isolation. I've never really gone through the process of renting a place and need some advice.

What advice can you give me regarding finding a place and basically finding steps towards some stability before getting my life back together?

Suicide is always an option, as most NEETs can sympathize, but ill leave that last.
It brings me comfort, a degree of control at least.

Invest in tinted windows if you're sleeping in the car that's a huge plus if you're living in it. Know the window for places you can shower and change at places like gyms for example. Unless you have a good metabolism or walk a lot don't load up on carbs, the stress and probable lack of sleep will slow you down and fatten you up or make you more depressed.
>>
OP bump for a few hours sleep
>>
have you talked with your father about the car? ask him, politely, if it's possible to transfer the title to you as a gift.

there's a website called padmapper that shows geographically where apartment listings are for your city/region. that might help

alternatively do you have any grandparents or aunts/uncles you can go live with? at least temporarily to give you time to sort stuff out.

good luck anon
>>
Start looking for apts
If that fails try a homeless shelter. It's not fun but it's a life experience.

I did 5 and a half months in a shelter.
>>
Whatever happens DO NOT TOUCH THE CREDIT CARD. You are in no position to pay any debt back, it will fuck you up.
>>
Is joining the military an option?
>>
Different anon, but I too will need to find a place to live soon. Does anyone know anything about income based housing? I've read a bunch of articles about it but I was wondering if anyone had first hand experience.
>>
>>17514366
There are a few local pool facilities that have showers nearby, my work also has a shower that isn't often used, my gym also has a shower.
The windows in my car are already tinted, but I can't count on it as an asset as ill explain shortly.

>>17515437
I am not really in a position to negotiate, but I can buy it off him outright with the money I have, It may hinder me with my financial options in the short term but it means I do have a roof over my head (so to speak) I can still attend work, I can still keep my work/clothes clean can still shower etc.

I don't have family here unfortunately.

>padmapper
Thanks anon, could use this or temp accom. while looking for something more permanent. as >>17515623 suggests.

>>17515666
Thx satan trips.
I maintain pretty good credit discipline and credit rating, I only owe $120 on the card. But yes I definitely agree.

>>17515700
This is actually an option I was considering before this whole thing went down.
I have a pretty extensive volunteering experience from working in community engagements, working as a volunteer fire fighter which gave me more variety of roles I could apply for.

But I need to find a more permanent address first, since they'll probably not take me in if I'm homeless.
Otherwise its one of my best options career-wise at this point to find more stability.

Assuming you have no medical problems if you don't care what job you get they can have you shipping off to basic in less than a month. Go to a recruiter, they're used to dealing with problems like this. Also I have no idea about your situation but if you show your parents that you have a plan they might be more willing to let you stay there until you ship out.

I recommend Navy btw, it's what I did and I'd be happy to give you more detailed advice about it if you wanted.

Please do, the more info I have the better, any will do. Which country did you serve?

I am unsure how well things will go or if this will blow over or get substantially worse, but I'd like to have a plan which I am formulating the best I can that I can utilize immediately. Currently all my essentials are packed and will fit in a boot of a hire car for me to put into temp storage while I sort a few more things out.

If its anything to go by Navy wise, I have a background teaching open water scuba and i'm a rated technical diver in re-breathers working towards my trimix and heliox rating.

Im having a meeting with the recruiter early this month to discuss which branch/service would be most appropriate and see what roles I am eligible for. But I am afraid I'll just have to choose what I'm offered as you said, and hope for a transfer. Once I settle down.

If you have any advice, from recruitment, to basic, how to it into the lifestyle, please do tell.
>>
JOIN A GYM, you can go there for showers and lifting weights can keep your mind off things for a while.
>>
>>17516572
OK, I'll write you a wall of text when I get home from work later.

Thank you very much.

Bumping thread till then.

any more advice is most welcome
>>
Seriously, what anon said here >>17516572 is exactly what my older brother did. He was homeless and just had to stick out a few months until he left for Navy Academy (USA).

I was actually about to be kicked out of my dad's house and I applied for a job in a casino in Las Vegas (Internal Credit department; 'using a calculator' is pretty much my only job prerequisite) and I've worked for the casino since.

One of my best friends also signed up to join the Navy (USA) after he was kicked out of his parents house for flunking out of college and he is doing really well for himself. He advised me that I need to be completely honest with the recruiter as to my situation and the recruiter would work with me (I never actually talked to a recruiter so I don't know how true this is).

alright so first thing is to decide on which branch is the best fit for you. The way I see it it breaks down like this

Navy: you'll get lots of travel and go all around the world, very technical focused so there are a lot of jobs that lead directly into civilian careers, you're on the water a lot obviously, it's the most peace keeping focused of all the branches.

Army: I'd consider this if you're really into operating massive vehicles, they have a whole lot of them. Be warned though there's no war on so if you sign up for a combat oriented job you're not going to get to actually do it. Instead you'll spend most of your time just doing busy work at a base somewhere.

Air Force: similar to the navy in that it's very technical focused, but you'll just stay on an airbase somewhere instead of being on a ship traveling around the globe. It's good if you're really into planes, but be warned that any job that gets you actually on a plane will be extremely competitive. They have the cushiest living situation of any branch, but it's still not great.

Marines: similar to the army except worse, don't join the marines unless you take pride in doing things the hard way over the smart way. I really wouldn't recommend it.

Coast Guard: personally I think this is the best branch, and if I could do it again its the route I'd go. They're really the only one that actually defends america by fighting drug smugglers and human traffickers on the water. They also help save mariners when they get into trouble out on the water. It's a very small branch which is both a good and bad thing, it's good because the training is very broad (if you compared a cg sailor and a navy sailor doing the same job the navy guy would know everything about one cog in the machine while the cg guy would understand how the whole machine works) but the downside is that since it's so small theres a much larger demand than there is space it currently has a 2 year waitlist to get in unfortunately
>>
once you do decide to on a branch (and I'm biased but I do suggest the navy) you'll have to decide on what job you want, here's a list of all of them
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Navy_ratings

Go through that and see what looks interesting to you. I was a QM which means I was involved with navigation and steering the ship, I really enjoyed it. The thing is though if you just go and say you want to get in as fast as possible you'll probably get slotted into a rate that has a lot of vacancies for a reason, like AB who are the crew on the flight deck of carriers (might sound cool, but in the persian gulf those decks can get up to 110 degrees) or BM which is pretty much just chipping and painting decks all the live long day (very important job, but it aint much fun) HT which is pretty much the ship's plumber is always looking for bodies as well.

I don't remember the proper term for it but there was an option where you could basically go in undeclared and you do an apprenticeship in a bunch of different departments then decide on your rate 2 years in or so, that might be good for you since you could probably get in that very quick. I remember it was where they put all the people who joined the navy wanting to be seals but couldn't hack the training. Unfortunately the reality of the program is that any ship that gets you will just stick you with whoever needs bodies the most, which is always the deck maintenance department. Generally the cooler sounding the job the longer the wait time will be, but in the end it's worth it if you can manage. It is possible to switch rates but you have to be a real model sailor to get it approved, if you ever fuck up and get a dui or something it'll never happen.

A few years ago PBS did a documentary about life aboard an aircraft carrier, it's 10 1 hour episdoes and I strongly recommend watching it since it paints a pretty accurate picture of the difficult reality of life in the navy. It's a tremendous challenge but it honestly gets in your blood in a way that's hard to describe, whenever you're over there you can't wait to get back home but then when you're home all you can think about is all the good times you had with your shipmates and you can't wait to get back on the water again

http://www.pbs.org/weta/carrier/full_episodes.htm

anyway if there's more you wanted to know then shoot, but go to a recruiter and find out for yourself. But be aware that their job is to get you to sign up so take what they say with a grain of salt when they promise you that it's gonna be some paradise.

Thank you for your insight, and taking the time to write out all that information.

I'm from Australia, I'm sure that many of the things you've said apply here too. I'm contacting my recruiter tomorrow to fast track my interview if I can. I'm having a look at what roles would suit me off the bat, then Ill listen to suggestions given to me during my interview and make my decision then.

I've called a few buddies of mine and I can crash in their place for the meanwhile as I go property hunting.
I've cleared my credit card, and I've got a hire car lined up in short notice to get all my stuff, I've reserved a storage place, all my essential clothes are packed, my bug-out and get home bag are all kitted and resupplied.

I think I'm all set and ready to go when that hammer drops.

Last bump for advice otherwise thanks for all the contributions I am very grateful.
