A pull up bar costs more than a couple of weights, unless you're buying a cheap shit one that won't work well anyways.

Pull ups are never bad for you, and gym memberships aren't expensive unless you have a minimum wage job and a family to support.
But pull ups alone will not build you drastic muscle mass because they're largely a back exercise.
