There's no trick to getting people to be friends with you, they either care enough to stick around or they don't (in which case fuck em, you don't need friends of that caliber).

Just establish contact and put in effort, though from my point of view (since I've been in a similar situation), it might be best to just cut your losses, drop contact, and start anew with people who actually appreciate your company.
