Is it possible to be friends with a person that directly competes against you for the same "resources"? i.e. money, women, etc

Okay Anders Breivik, but I meant rivals in a more direct way, as in us having the same social circle and same environment and having to compete over the same resources . So when he makes money, it's at the cost of me not making that money. When I get a girl, it's at the cost of him not getting that girl.
To clarify, we're both boxers, so we compete for the best fight opportunities and for the slutty women that hang around us
