Just keep it cool. Have a cup in hand. All in the head and the knees. Nod and bob with the knees, and you have a decent background character shimmy going. Think of how you nod your head when you hear a good song and enjoy it. Do that.

At college parties, speaking from experience, people aren't usually dancing. Most of the fun is in the drinking and having a good time. Just read the room and do what most are doing. If there's a game going, cheer when others do. If people are getting dancing, keep your cup, nod and bob. Laugh a lot when others do too. Get chummy with other drunk dudes. If there's a room of sitting people, keep your empty cup still and just sit and chill.

Drink until you feel buzzed and sociable, then carry around your empty cup. Having a cup in hand is 100% the easiest way to look natural at a party. Even if you're just standing there. Who's moving around a lot while they're drinking?

tl;dr: Get a couple drinks in, keep your empty cup and do what most of the people in the room are doing.
