I'm not too sure if I'm posting in the right board or not, and I honestly don't know what to do. I'm technologically inept and I have nobody to turn to but 4chan, and that doesn't leave me with a ton of wiggle room.
The issue: My hard drive roasted about a month ago during an outage. I bought a new drive and torrented Windows 8.1 onto a flash drive. I started it up and I have no idea how to boot from the flash drive.

Find out how to go to BIOS from your specific machine. There's a boot device selection tab, don't remember exactly what it's called.

Exactly right, it normally is on of the Function keys (f1,f2, etc)

Restart PC
Boot to BIOS
go to boot options
change priority from your HDD to your USB
save, exit
press key when prompted
rest is cake
just did this a couple of hours ago on a new tablet. But, anon, why the hell are you using win 8.1? You would be laughed out of /g/, I hope you know. Get 10, or even 7.

get into your BIOS. look for a boot section. i forget what its called. it will be set to boot from your primary harddrive. you can set it to boot from your flash drive.
