This probably doesn't sound like I should be happy about it, but I realize I'm the most successful person in my family. I seem to be the only one not living pay check to pay check.

That sounds great, many of my friends went trekking in Peru and said it was amazing! Hoping to go there myself next year.

Also having a pretty good time right now.
>Just finished M.Sc. and first 2 years of Med-School (MD-PhD program)
>Paper to be published in 2 weeks in one of the top journals in my field
>Have great ideas for my PhD
>Celebrating first anniversary with girlfriend in a concert where our favorite musician will be playing (never saw him live before because tickets are expansive)
>Flying to a convention in the UK next month to present our work, and PI will be paying for everything from registration to flights to a 4 star hotel he booked me (with meals included)
>Moving into a larger apartment in 2 weeks which is 3 times the size of my current room
>Paycheck will be tripled starting November

It feels like everything I've been working on for the past years is finally falling into place in spectacular fashion

I have had the great fortune to have turned myself around from crippling weed addiction, to a job with not too many hours that still pay middl-class wage, own a car, mortgage a cheap apartment, some savings, and can afford several vacations a year.

From where I came from, I am very happy that my life turned out so well. Even managed to get a highschool diploma under my belt, despite me dropping out the last year due to personal problems and weed addiction.

There is still hope, guys!
Just hang in there and don't slack off, and oppurtunities await around every corner.
Giving up is defeat, perseverance is victory
