Hey /adv/ so I'm starting college soon and I'm pretty much new to the adult life in the real world. Right now it would be helpful if you guys could explain to me how credit works since I'm most likely going to start using it soon
>>
cred·it
ˈkredət/
noun
1. the ability of a customer to obtain goods or services before payment, based on the trust that payment will be made in the future.

>explain

You start out with neither bad or good credit. You ask a lender for money or goods and they "loan" to you. When you pay it, overtime your credit will become "good."

If you don't repay it, your credit will become "bad."

It's nothing more than your reputation (credibility) in regards to finance. The more you repay, the more credibility you get. When you don't repay, you lose that credibility.
>>
You don't need credit or a credit card. I've never had one and I am very successful.
>>
Credit is just a way for the Jews to squeeze out more money from you then what you actually should pay. Pay for everything in cash up front. If you can't do it then don't do it.
>>
Get a credit card from your bank. Doesn't matter what they limit is. Then use said card for gas AND ONLY GAS. Paying it off every month.

Don't listen to him. He probably works for the jidf and is posting from Israel. Do not under any circumstances get credit
>>

I got a credit card about 4 years ago and I use it to buy everything. I just abide by two simple rules: 1. never end up with more debt than money in my savings account, and 2. pay it ALL off at least twice a month.

If you have the self-discipline this is a very simple way to get good credit, and you can also probably get on some sort of points system and end up with free shit.

Except to buy a house, rent an apartment, finance a car, pay off your tuition, or sign any contract ever in your life for anything

You should be fine

Get a student card. Discover offers a card for students with a 500 credit limit. Start there.
>>
Hey guys OP here, thank you for the advice that you guys are giving me, but what I want to know is why are some of you hating on credit cause as >>17448397 basically said, you need it in your life
>>
>>17448430
Because it's dangerous and can ruin your life if used irresponsibly. Just make sure you never spend money you don't have and you should be fine.
>>
>>17448430

Credit cards are oxymoronic. The people who are good with money don't need credit cards other than to get a credit score. Anyone who needs a credit card in their day to day life cant be very good with money.

I've always had money. A minimum of 5K in my bank at any time but apparently I cant be trusted to get a mortgage because I don't need to borrow money from the bank every month.

So now, to get a credit better score I buy random shit and pay it back immediately. Its just extra hassle.
>>
>>17448496
I'll take note of that, thank you anon

>>17448555
So you're basically exploiting the system? kek

Anyway guys, right now I'm going to buy a new printer soon since my old one is messing up, I don't have the money right now, but I'll most likely have it in 10 days, you guys think I should start there?
>>
>>17448602
If you don't have money in your bank account right now to pay for the printer, then don't buy it. Never buy something with the assumption that you'll have the money x days in the future. That's how you get fucked over.
>>
>>17448646
Really? I'd thought that that would be ok but I guess not
