What is the basic IRC etiquette?
For one, are you supposed to say hi upon joining a channel? Also, how fast are you supposed to respond when somebody is talking to you? And do you say goodbye when leaving (even if you will come back later in the day)?

Mainly, don't be a dick.

The basic IRC etiquette is very much like IRL etiquette: nobody gives a shit what you do.
Why are you even on IRC? It's fucking 2016

I had used it sometimes (rarely) throughout the last decade. What do normal people mostly use as a substitute for IRC nowadays?

wake up man, the 'net is dead.
4chan is the last anonymous stone standing.

I find it to be very annoying and most people who use it seem to be acting very stupid.
People often leave negative comments and can be mean. And unlike the IRC, where you can just change your nick and move on, you have no way of escape.
And should you make angry replies to a negative comment, you will be trolled into oblivion.
