the issue with /adv/ is that you frequently have threads where the question OP actually asks exposes deeper problems that people start offering advice about, invariably this puts the OP on the defensive and they start making excuses as to why they can't do any of that and people just don't understand. That thread yesterday with the girl who needed help asking her mom to drive her to go get a dildo is a good example of that, people started asking why she couldn't take a bus (I live in a rural small town) why she couldn't go herself (I don't drive) why she couldn't buy online (I don't have a bank account) people started raising questions of why she didn't have these things.

Worse though are the people who come with their mind already made up on how to proceed but make a thread asking for advice, then when people universally advise a different approach they get angry.

And worst of all are the people who make threads asking how to move forward on a problem but then give a million excuses for any advice they're given. That happened just earlier today with the asian woman living in Finland feeling isolated and bored with a husband who has become distant since she gained weight.

Anyway I've been on /adv/ from the start and its no better or worse than its ever been. This place was literally created as a containment board to keep relationshit threads off of /r9k/.

It depends. On one hand, the advice giver is free to post the full, naked truth. On the other, you have troll comments that is the worst possible advice. Add in idiots who think they know what they are doing, and you get advice that runs the gamut from terrible to great. It is up to the OP to sort the wheat from the chaff on what advice to follow.

I think of it more as a (mostly) unbiased outside opinion, then try to realistically apply what is suggested to my issues. No one knows what's happening in my life better than I do.
