I used to have a lizard and I could recognize him instantly, even without spots. With spots theres no way you're going to fool the owner. They will know its not the same one.

Its normal its playing dead because they are naturally pack animals and occasionally imprint of the owners if bought earlier enough..it can also be learned. Its them basically playing dead..like a possum. They do this because the pack has left so they feel no need to live. Ummm this has happened to me once before when I went on vacation and allowed a friend to watch my leopard geko. Just put it back in its case. Remember still feed it...they will get up when they sense no vibration or noise around them. Don't be alarmed if they aren't eating..they last a while without food .

Idk depends on how much he liked the gecko. I guess the best you could do is figure out if it was your fault or not and then compensate him through however he wants bar something stupid like blowing him
