How do you cheer yourself up when you have the blues?
I'm not talking about clinical depression, I mean the common sort of down moods that everyone experiences.

Random acts of kindness. Not big things, usually: helping people pick up stuff they dropped, helping unstick a stuck vending machine, things like that. But you'd be surprised at just how much you can brighten someone's day even with things like this, and some of that gets reflected back onto you.

Also, try to avoid music that lets you wallow in self-defeat. It's fun to turn on Elliott Smith when shit sucks, and you want to effing die, but it's so much more helpful to listen to something cheerful or angry.
