How do people make friends?

Go somewhere where you may find people with similar personalities to you, or with the same interests, or who are going through something you are also going through. Then move from there by meeting friends of friends.
It's highly a matter of luck though so don't feel bad if you can't meet friends fast.

I may add that joining a charity group can be a good idea. You are doing something good, you are meeting people who are also probably good, and if you don't like it at first you can just stop going.
