If this is something for /biz/ tell me to fuck off.
I'm 18 and will be making $10/hour next month, but am currently at $8.5/hour. I have nearly 4K in my savings. I have 1.8K left to pay this semester which starts at the end of next month, but I only have 2K left in my checkings. Should I apply for a loan?

why?

Keep myself afloat. Food/gas/insurance. Purchasing books will be a non issue because muh yar har. Parents aren't making me pay rent. Yet.

again, i ask why?
you have a combined savings of 6k. you need 1.8k.... you still have 4.2k left over, a regular pay check coming in and virtually no expenses. yes, gas books food, but i said virtually. 4 thousand alone will cover you for an entire semester if its just gas books and food.

I guess I expected things to be way worse. Obviously I'm not in the thick of it but I presumed I'd be one of the unlucky bastards that were going to be swamped with debt.

just do the math and see what happens. you should be fine til the end of the semester.
but asking strangers on an anonymous boi pucci rating pictograph forum whether or not you should take out a loan with such a tiny look into your finances is a badi dea.

At this point, your savings are made to be used. That's called an emergency fund. Up to $10k or 15k, everything you have should be spent if really needed.

Yes, take out all the loans you can then file for and get approved for disability.
Then you fill out two forms and submit them.
ALL of your student debt is gone with the wind.
