Do you think being a part of a community that strongly deviates from societal norms or standards can be inherently bad for your mental health? try to not need context, or if possible consider it within the context of your own life

As long as the community is not the kind to plug their ears and scream at any thought that deviates from the community. Ideals need challenging to prove their validity. If you don't take any introspective look you take the risk of becoming a nut sipping the cool aid.

Tough if not impossible question to answer without providing context.

If you are a fragile person with a fragile mind, you should probably just stay away from aggressive and manipulative preachers.

I know... but I'd rather the specific not distract from the question I'm asking.

But to be a bit clearer: Say you are a part of the community not because of any sort of charismatic leader, but out of your own disposition or introspection.

I don't think I have a fragile mind, but I do wonder what the consequences might be of distancing yourself from "normalcy" even when the specifics don't seem threatening in themselves.

If I know anything, social psychology and sociology run the game. But I don't have a good understanding of them
