I'm an incoming college freshman in the US, and I'm considering a Biochemistry major. Having received a 5 on the AB Calc AP exam, should I take Calc II my first semester, even if I don't necessarily have to as per the major's course requirements? I like math, but GPA is of course a big concern for me and I'm not yet acquainted with university rigor (I assume that most classes are much harder at the college level than their AP analogues tend to be in high school). Also, I'm not presently sure if I'm aiming for med school or a different sort of grad school.

If you like math, why not do BioMed Engineering or get another Engi degree?
Good mix of science, math, and job opportunities

At my University Calc AB only covered the first 2 University Calc classes so you might still have more calculus to take. Look into that. If you don't need Calc you can start on linear algebra.
