If you have a chance, take it. If your friend is telling you to not talk to the guy just so SHE gets to talk to him, then to hell with her, she obviously doesn't care much for you, so you shouldn't care much for her. If you genuinely like the guy, then try to hook up with him. As simple as that.

This is what I'm thinking. I don't think I'm going to make any explicit advances on him, but if it were to happen, I would let it. She doesn't own him and he clearly isn't beholden to only her.
