If there was a person that tries to steal something e.g. wallet but you found out and in response beat the hell out of the person, would you be arrested? Say if this is in a metro.

Say in France or Italy. The pickpocket attempts to steal, you scream/shout pickpocket. They try to run with your stuff, you got him/her and hit them and continue your life. The twist is that the police was there the whole time .
