So I don't know alot about the world and random little things. I went out with some friends and one guy knew all these facts about things and it made me think about how little I know and how little I retain about things. What are ways to learn more about life, and retain facts and gain more experience in life

by experiencing it and reading
If you're not the outgoing sort of person, reading is pretty great for "understanding the world" I guess.
New Yorker is good for investigative journalism or cultural criticism.
Foreign Affairs or Foreign Policy for international political news.
Buzzfeed. Avoid the listicles; it has some great longform writing on pop culture.
Longreads.com.
For news in general, nothing really beats The Economist. I like The Guardian because it's simpler to read.
The pinned post on /lit/ is great for finding both non-fiction and fiction novels.
Start a Twitter account and follow some journalists. They'll keep you up to date with what's going on in the world.
Idk, this might not be what you're looking for but if you want to be able to start and hold a conversation about something then reading is pretty unbeatable, though it won't net you any sort of personal experience.

Devote one hour a day to this:
Buy a good big-city newspaper. Read it all, from cover to cover, even the sections you're not interested in. You'll pick up a good sense of what's happening in news, politics, sports, fashion, celebrities, business, etc.
