Cook. It's one of the most practical-yet-rewarding hobbies there is.
Go to youtube and watch instructional cooking videos until you find a host you like and whose recipes interest you. Then, pick one and cook it.
Making breads and bread-based dishes from scratch is fun and impresses. I've made french dip sandwhiches with bread I had baked that same day, and they were fucking killer.
One not-insignificant point: bakers made bread before stand mixers existed, but holy fuck is it ever easier making bread when you own one. They are pricey, but drop the work level of making bread to something low enough that I don't resist making it. If I had to kneed it by hand every time I'd just never make bread.
