At my work we use hydrochloric acid, usually 38% for pickling steel.

I was not wearing PPE and got an acid burn on the inside of my elbow (like where doctors give injections)

It has been having trouble healing because the wound won't dry out and scab because every time i fold my arm it opens back up again and drains a little bit of clear or slightly yellow puss. I have been using antibacterial ointment and keeping it covered at work, but it's not healing because it wont scab over and dry

What do you suggest? Besides going to a doctor and wasting hundreds of dollars

A) go to a fucking doctor, stop being a retard, and B) at best you can try to keep your arm in a position to dry without you fucking it up every time. It probably won't work though, and your arm would likely cramp.
>>
>>17373133
so whats a doctor going to do besides wrap it in a bandage and give me a 900 dollar bill?
>>
>>17373135
Make sure you don't have an infection, nerve damage, or any other number of things that could go wrong.

Do you want to know the worst case scenario for untreated wounds? Death or amputation. I mean for fucks sake, you have an acid burn, that alone is unusual enough to be concerned about.

And trust me, no competent doctors spend a significant amount of time here, it's mostly med students and nurses.

dont bend your arm for a week
>>

>Make sure you don't have an infection, nerve damage, or any other number of things that could go wrong

Pretty much this

>>17373200
Don't do this

>And trust me, no competent doctors spend a significant amount of time here, it's mostly med students and nurses
You won't many Registrars (middle grade) or Consultants here. I'm a foundation doctor, but don't knock us too much. We're champs at recognising when things need to be tended to
>>
>>17373219
Well I take it back, I never see anyone actually qualified reply to these things. It's always the med students and nurses.

Ignorance born of selective experience I guess?
>>

So yeah, my advice...

Puss about... Let it out

You're doing all you can do really: keeping it covered at work and using antiseptic on it
But you really should get it checked out by a doctor in person
Yes, 9/10 times it may be a 'waste of time and money' (so glad people don't have to worry about the latter in the UK, and that it's doctors that worry about the former)... But you may be that person that needs active intervention
>>
>>17373236
I guess so

And to be honest, I enjoy coming to /adv/, for offering non-medical related advice too, but even I only pop on and quickly browse the top 20 threads once an evening - mostly to see if anyone is asking for medical advice (because let's be honest, you're pretty desperate if you come to 4chan for it)
>>
>>17373252
Or pretty stupid. Quite often the threads I see for medical stuff is urgent, or specialist level, and that means they should have never come here in the first place.

I'd have been tempted to become a doctor if I wasn't so squeamish (I really dislike the idea of cutting people open or sitting around sick people) but I am still obsessed with trying to help however I can (I play a healer role in pretty much every game, to illustrate how much I enjoy helping.)

Do you think there is a specialisation that would let me avoid surgery, contagious viruses and legitimately insane (to the point of violence) people? If there was a "safe" field I would consider going for it, but I am not sure I am the right fit to be a doctor (I mean how many squeamish doctors are successful?)
>>
What concentration is that in mols
>>
>>17373474
No idea. I know its just barely possible to evaporate up to 45%. So almost 100% concentration
>>
In my chem class we used Hydrochloric acid almost all the time. Most of the time it will just irritate the skin for a while. If you left it on for a while you might wanna go get it checked, but if you washed it off real fast you should be fine. Just tough it out. However if it got badly infected it's RIP you gotta go to the doctor for that.
