Depends on the strain and how much you're smoking/consuming. In low doses it might help but if you get full on stoned, it might make it worse.

Could do either, or both at different times. Depends on the individual and the exact cause of your depression. Correcting a chemical imbalance in the brain can be a little bit of trial and error to find the right chemical and dosage for you. The only one really qualified to make an educated guess here is a neurologist.

Speaking from experience by the way. When I got stoned, if I let even the slightest negative though enter my head, it would send me into a downward spiral of self-loathing but in low doses, it actually made my day a lot better.

Yea this guy knows. There's a lot of factors to consider like your environment and current mood but let me tell you a good euphoric strain slaps a smile on your face. You've got nothing to lose by trying worse case scenario you find weed isn't for you.
