My girlfriend mentioned that she wants to get a fairly large (8" is my guess) tattoo on her upper leg to cover up an older tattoo. I immediately said I didn't like the idea of that, which sent us into a funk for a couple hours.
Her main point: It's her body not mine, it doesn't affect me
My main point: It does affect me because we're together and I don't like it, and if she wants to cover up a tattoo she got two years ago, how in the world can she say she won't want to keep covering up/modifying
I really don't like tattoos. She already has a few, which I don't mind. But all I can think about is how bad of an idea it is to spend up to several hundred dollars to let some grubby dude poke permanent heavy metals under your skin. How far off base am I?
p.s. in the end we both agreed we love each other more than a stupid tattoo

she cannot and the major reason not to get one or to just stop. It's permanent and the great idea or love of that tat in the moment changes and it's too late
You fucked up by dating a girl with tattoos in the first place.

nah. I have zero tattoos and I have the same number of past sexual partners as my partner, enjoy oral, and like frequent "unprotected" sex.
