In short there are a number of chemical and psychological benefits to pair-bonding. These benefits like muscles degrade with neglect and improve with use. Social skills, oxytocin and serotonin being some just off the top of my head.

I say theoretically yes because i base it on my own understanding of brain chemistry and biology. hugging releases oxytocin and serotonin, which improves your bodies ability to release it, conversing with a familiar person improve connection in speech pathways of the brain etc etc,
